The reason JKR is suddenly saying more and more “moderate” seeming things is not because her views are “moderate”, you daft shits. It’s because she is registering that her extremely overtly transphobic points are now making her very unpopular.

I’m old enough to remember when huge swathes of media were suggesting that all mental health diagnoses were fake and ppl only thought they were mentally ill because we were talking about it. They’re now repeating this playbook with ADHD.

You know how I keep saying the Times paywall is basically a rattling trapdoor over the demon realm? Well
We have analysed just how obsessed the media was with Jason Arday right up until his death.
We tracked 249 articles about him by UK media. 44 from The Times alone, 43 from The Telegraph, and the list goes on.
The nonsense the media was publishing about him was a perfect representation of how morally bankrupt legacy journalism has become.

Libraries make us a harder target for authoritarianism. Equal access to info, ideas, and space that doesn’t require a purchase to belong. Also: using the library means money stays in your community instead of streaming out to Amazon. 📚 What’s checked out on your card right now?

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 61: Readers don’t relate to characters because they’re attractive; they relate to them because they recognise a shared experience. So give your characters hobbies; pets; watch them eat food; make them fall in love; worry about their jobs; their kids. Make them human.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Thought: every consumer (and business tbh)-facing AI service is the cheapest and ‘best’ version of itself NOW while they hook people in. Over time it will charge more and reduce options. So, the AI makes everything free or super low cost is bullshit.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 164001: If you want to beat AI, write using your human voice, from your human perspective. Write about feelings; sensations; dreams. Be you, in all your uniqueness. AI is generic; bland; acceptable. Dare to be different; subversive; real. That's how we stay human.
