A reddit post on the conduct of anti-trans lawyer Naomi Cunningham. Shocking stuff, heartbreaking to see how trans people are treated in court, and the free reign to commit unadulterated cruelty by the bigots who will never see consequences for their actions. www.reddit.com/r/transgende...

I'm just going to leave this here, it's a network graph showing Mary-Ann's connections in the gender-critical world. Given that she's already deeply embedded in anti-trans activity, it's difficult to judge her on anything but that.
A network diagram with Mary Ann Stephenson at the centre, showing her connections to several prominent anti-trans campaigns, and then the huge number of other terfs connected to them.

I think people are too harsh to Good Law Project at times, I remember when the GLP vs EHRC judgement came out seeing people act like it was wrong for them to promo the wind they did get when they lost on other points. But the wind are a big deal, especially in the current climate!

The UK Government has today published its draft bill on banning conversion practices in England and Wales – and after 8 long years of promises to bring in an effective ban, we’ll be waiting longer yet.

Oh, and we're just blatantly going to write this in such a way that gender affirming care can be deemed to be "conversion practices" with the clause b(i). Got it.
A screenshot of the government's draft bill on "ending conversion practices" which reads:

(2) “Conversion practice” means (subject to subsection (3)) any conduct carried out by a person towards an individual with the intention of—

(a) causing the individual—
(i) to have or not to have,
(ii) to believe that they have or do not have,
a sexual orientation or a particular sexual orientation; or

(b) causing the individual—
(i) to have or not to have,
(ii) to believe that they have or do not have,
a transgender identity or a particular transgender identity.

🚨DR UK's Statement on the EHRC's New Code of Practice "We are appalled at implications that an adequate workaround is trans people using Disabled toilets instead. We will not be used as a loophole in the wider erosion of trans rights." Full statement👇 www.disabilityrightsuk.org/news/disabil...
Disability Rights UK’s Statement on the EHRC’s New Code of Practice
As the makers of the original RADAR key and custodian of the National Key Scheme, Disability Rights UK issues our unequivocal solidarity with trans people, who should not be forced to choose between risking harassment in public facilities – or not using them at all.
Image of Disability Rights UK logo in a purple box.
We are appalled at implications from the Code that an adequate workaround is trans people using Disabled toilets instead. It is a vain attempt to get two marginalised groups to blame one another for our lack of facilities, when the blame lies firmly at the feet of policymakers. We will not fall for it. We will not be used as a ‘loophole’ in the wider erosion of trans rights.
Image of Disability Rights UK logo in a purple box.
Our RADAR key scheme began in 1981, rooted in the understanding that accessible facilities can be the difference between living the lives we deserve – socialising, travelling and working – and complete social exclusion.

Our community knows how it feels to be scapegoated simply for trying to access the necessities we need to live. Trans rights do not come at the expense of Disabled, nor anyone else’s.
Image of Disability Rights UK logo in a purple box.
As is clear from this Code of Practice, it sets a dangerous precedent for the erosion of other protected characteristics. If the Equality Act can be up for debate in this arena, who is to say this will not be the case when it comes to disability in the near future?

As a result, the Disabled-led movement must make a clear stand against this ruling, not to mention because 52% of trans people are Disabled themselves.

Streeting has said he's made a "principled decision" to not start the leadership bid just yet. Others tell a different story 🤣
Wes Streeting is unlikely to be on Keir Starmer’s Christmas card list for some time. This is what a Starmer ally has told me: "Wes has failed the most basic rule of politics: he can’t count.

"He never had the numbers. We counted and counted and counted and recounted. The highest number we got for Wes was 44.

"We could not see how he could get higher than that. We knew that, Wes will have known that. So all that stuff from Wes about how he is resigning in the party interest to allow a broad debate is a load of old guff. He never had the numbers.

The new commissioners for the EHRC. Seems like it will continue to never have had a trans commissioner, despite spending a disproportionate amount of time working very hard to take away our equality and human rights.
• Jemima Olchawski: Executive Director of Social Impact at Mind. Formerly CEO of the Fawcett Society and CEO of Agenda, she served as a member of the Ministry of Justice's Advisory Board on Female Offenders and led the campaign for the Workers Protection Act.
• Sunder Katwala: Has over 25 years of experience in think tanks, journalism, and publishing. He is the Director of British Future, a charity and think tank focused on identity, race, and immigration. He previously led the Fabian Society and worked at The Observer and Foreign Policy Centre.
• Susan Kemp: An international lawyer and adviser with experience at the Scottish Human Rights Commission. Her background includes work with the UN, civil society, and international organisations on rule of law and human rights issues.• Martyn Jones JP DL: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at South Wales Police and Interim Chair of the EHRC Wales Committee. A Deputy Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan, he was previously CEO of Learning Disability Wales, CEO of Diverse Cymru, and a Presiding Justice.
• David Carrigan: Has over 25 years of experience in equality, human rights, and social mobility across sectors including housing, policing, media, and technology.
Roles include Group Director at Sky, Director at Live Nation, and leadership positions at Citizens Advice and the Homes and Communities Agency.
• Polly Neate: A cross-bench peer in the House of Lords. She is a coach and strategic advisor. Formerly, she was CEO of Shelter and Women's Aid. Polly has experience in housing, homelessness, and women's issues. She is a trustee for the Young Women's Trust and Women in Sport.

Interesting slide from an NHS ai network discussion. Looking into implementing AI into the NHS, staff aren't using it, don't know how to use it, have to spend their time double checking and correcting when they do use it, and there is no guidance around how they should be using it.
A slide describing NHS staff usage of AI

Findings from stakeholder engagement

1. Adoption is a bigger issue thanaccess

Use remains patchy across teams and roles. Access, licences and confidence are all shaping uptake.

2. Practical implementation is the key challenge, not just the tech

Benefits depend on workflow, local context and basic digital foundations, not just software capability.

3. Skills are shifting towards judgement, review & confidence

Al is changing the nature of work, with more emphasis on checking, evaluating and using outputs appropriately

4. Governance and value are unresolved

There is still limited clarity on purpose, boundaries of use, accountability and how success should be measured.

Watermarks of the following organisations are at the bottom.

We didn't lose the challenge on the basis we should have waited for the Code. Indeed, the Court agreed with us that the interim guidance itself led employers and service providers to act. The case was decided on the High Court's interpretation of the law, and is now authority on what the law is.
