Every bit of movement counts. You can build up again over time. You got this, I believe in you.

I offer you a void loaf in these trying times. Milo is good for morale.
A black cat loafed on an entrance mat. He is gazing through vertical blinds out a glass patio door. He has achieved maximum chill.

I am going through the same, yet different. Between janky sleep and my body rebelling again I know exactly why I am so tired, buuuuuut as you can imagine that isn't much comfort

Humaning.
A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a Northern Cardinal and American Goldfinch perch above a busy crowd in a city, looking down. The cardinal says "It's a nice day to go humaning." The goldfinch says "Just look at them. Majestic." In panel 2, a close-up of the two birds. The cardinal says "Nobody tells you that you'll reach a certain age and suddenly get into humaning. I hit 3 years old, and then bam."The birds are looking out over the crowd scene. In panel 3, the cardinal says "Their calls sound funny to us, but each one has a unique meaning." Below, people are saying various things: "I'm tired." "Where's my phone?" "I'd murder a burrito." In panel 4, the birds look down excitedly at a man walking by. The cardinal says "Wait, is that a guy who got dressed in the dark and put his shirt on inside out and backwards?" And the goldfinch exclaims, "Holy... that's a lifer!"

I mean, they likely don't accept a simple "no," so why would they accept something as inconceivable as someone being unimpressed and calling their bullshit?

I made a number of folks very angry in some game design classes because I dared to say that OoT had some serious flaws. I didn't say it wasn't fun or important or a good game, but they got mad all the same. I'm interested to see what folks who aren't peering through nostalgia goggles think.

My mom taught me to leave someone a way to save face not because it was polite but because that was the way to get someone to change their behavior. She was a psychologist but I suspect she learned that one just by observing people.

So... once again, the LLM prioritizes the end results because its creators lack the basic understanding that the process is what creates value, not "having an answer"?

I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on

It isn't as bad as it sounds. It is just a self scooping litter box, essentially, and I was able to get it working properly yesterday. Now just hoping the boys actually use it. You are correct, though, tech is incredibly stupid. Sometimes it isn't even intentional.

Just this week I got a good quality (but expensive) litter robot thing, and when I got it set up the thing threw a tantrum while my phone app thing was trying to connect with it. The actual box was going to sleep because the process was taking just a bit too long. You would think it was a printer.

I mean, you could say the same about me. But I can't provide internet access, so even a 30 second break is unlikely to help with that.

There's a post that compares "legitimate use of AI" to arson and baking, but I think it's more appropriate to say that this is like responding "but bricks are used to build houses" when everyone's saying we should stop giving bricks of cocaine to children.

Concept art is the most poisonous place to use Al. That's when your creative vision is the most fragile and undeveloped. When you see what the Al made and say, "That looks cool, I want my game to look like that!" it's like it's secretly swapping out your baby with its own.

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

Did you see how Apple, Amazon Walmart and other big companies are refunding the billions of dollars they got back from the federal tariff settlement to their customers, who ultimately bore the cost of higher prices? Yea, me neither.

Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.

One of the more frustrating legacies of 2020 is the idea that reporting risk factors for mortality is somehow always a slight against disabled and chronically ill people, as opposed to an essential piece of information for people in that category to assess their risk before *or after* they get sick

I'm not going to be relitigating COVID lockdowns or mask mandates. Both were necessary measures that saved lives. If you cannot accept the curtailing of even the minor of freedoms in the name of public safety, you have demonstrated that you do not give a solitary fuck about the rest of us.

there are a lot of philosophical concepts that get egregiously misused out of the seminar room (and in the seminar room, to be fair). but in terms of sheer pernicious misuse "social construct" has gotta be top 5 somewhere and it's not number 5

I know I buy far too many books but I like to think that lining the walls of my house with them wards off evil in some deeply important way.
