Not even hiding the blatant entitlement anymore. The Premier's Office continues to remove all checks and balances on its power. The courts, the legislature, the Auditor General, independent agencies, the federal government, voters and candidates they don't like... This is getting ridiculous.

I'm back and I'm already VERY INCENSED about something from the National Post. This piece, with its shitty clickbait headline attacking the Canadian government's tiny pushback amid an ongoing genocide, is written by the National Post's EDITOR IN CHIEF!!! He rarely writes articles... (cont)
National Post headline reads: IDF claps back against Anita Anand's criticism of the Gaza war

Subhead reads: 'Israel is only country in the world that could be attacked on seven fronts and described as being the aggressor,' says IDF spokesman Lt. Col Nadav Shoshani

james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country "...for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."
Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us.

So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.

Re. the security breach of US #Yemen war plans: It seems I've been attributing the US administration with a level of logic and insight that it may not in fact possess. Leaving aside the incompetence of the breach and the abhorrent use of playful emojis to celebrate bombs that killed dozens of civilians, I'm struck by how unclear the US rationale was in the run-up to bombing Yemen.
• Is it to restore freedom of navigation through the Red Sea? Allegedly. But JD
Vance points out that only 3% of US trade runs through Suez.
• Is it to help Europe? Hardly. Europeans are described as free-loading and pathetic. But, since they benefit, they'll get the bill.
• Is it to send a warning to Iran? Apparently not. Raising the spectre of Iran is merely advised as a public relations ploy.
• Is it to weaken the Houthis and hence help regional allies ahead of a likely flare up of Yemen's civil war? No. "It [is] not about the Houthis" the chat tells us.
• Is it to re-establish deterrence? That's the claim. But the Houthis have been bombed tens of thousands of times over the past decade and remain undeterred. So one is left thinking that the bombing is largely performative: let's show the world - we'll do it because we can.
