For the first time in our chapter’s history, DSA SF has a public voter guide! Our socialist analysis of the ballot puts working people before billionaires. The fight for a better SF doesn't end at the ballot box. 🌹 dsasf.org/vote 🎨 @artiskraa on ig

SF YIMBY has officially come out against Prop I, a ballot measure that would dedicated over $100 million a year to affordable housing and rent relief. For anyone who joined SF YIMBY in good faith thinking it was about housing for all, let this be your wake up call. The mask is off.

We’re back. Two weeks ago, a driver killed a 2 year-old child at 4th and Channel—the third pedestrian fatality of 2026. Since then, all SFMTA has done was repaint the existing crosswalks for a photo op. So the community took matters into our own hands.

San Franciscans deserve housing security, not displacement. The Mayor’s Family Zoning Plan still leaves more than 20,000 rent-controlled homes vulnerable to demolition. Thank you to Supervisors Fielder, Chan, Chen, and Walton for standing with tenants and working families.
Billionaires Attack Rent Control

GrowSF, a group funded by billionaires yet claiming to speak for the working class, released an attack ad on Monday targeting the four Supervisors who voted against the Mayor's Family Zoning Plan. As written, this plan threatens to demolish existing rent-controlled units, while failing to invest in the deeply affordable housing we need.

SF Standard headline: Moderate political group attacks supervisors who voted against Lurie’s upzoning planTireless organizing by tenants, supported by DSA SF and Supervisor Jackie Fielder, succeeded in exempting many rent controlled units - but the Mayor's plan still leaves up to 20,000 units vulnerable to demolition, placing a target on the backs of working families.

Headline: Board of Supervisors Strikes Down Rent-Control AmendmentWe commend DSA SF member Supervisor Jackie Fielder and her colleagues - Supervisors Chan, Chen, and Walton - for voting against this proposal, and we urge the Board to put forward a plan that centers housing for working families, not profits for real estate developers.

DSA SF and our allies will continue to fight against the displacement of tenants, and for real solutions to the affordability crisis like social housing, which San Franciscans voted for in 2020’s Prop I and which Mayor Lurie and his wealthy backers continue to ignore.

If someone's response to an effort to fund social housing is to complain about how a ballot campaign was run 5 years ago, I'm going to interpret that as they oppose social housing, and they are an obstacle to be routed around.

Either option is disqualifying imo. In addition, Bilal has one of the most conservative voting records in recent BoS history. I's like to see some acknowledgement of this from a self-proclaimed "progressive".

... "blocked housing". These are the same talking points used by Grow SF and other neoliberal attackers. My take is that either a) he was extremely uninformed about local politics and did not think much about a $10k+ donation, or b) he was informed but cannot admit that he was wrong about Bilal.

The SF Chronicle recently compared Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, mayor-elect of NYC, to Levi's heir Daniel Lurie. They could not be more different.
The Chronicle is dead wrong.
Mamdani was elected by DSA and working class people organizing to build political power. Lurie was elected by money. They couldn’t be more different because Lurie and his billionaire
friends are the history of politics.👋
Mamdani, DSA, and working people are the future.🌹

The way to fight racist power imbalances between landlords & tenants isn’t more private property. It’s fighting for tenants associations, tenants rights, and tenants protections to build democratic community power.

Car-centric cities disenfranchise the poor by creating a wealth-based barrier of entry to mobility. Corporate interests in cities have commodified both transportation and housing.
110 1
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
Driving is “fine” but objectively worse than every other mode of transportation. It’s the corporations that we want to go after that are the reason we have car-centric cities and a lacking transit system.
110 1
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
Why do you think kids don’t bike here? Probably because it’s not safe enough in the vast majority of our cities. The point isn’t to get everyone biking, the point is to get less people driving machines that kill children and the planet.
120 2
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
Paint is fine, but ideally actual protection like concrete or plastic is far better. It’s illegal to bike on sidewalks most places.

Idk what a cycle track is but paint doesn’t protect kids from vehicles on the street

Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
I’m okay paying for streets that slow enough for kids to bike to school on, and think we should be investing more in that type of infrastructure.
110 1
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
That’s kinda the cost of a functioning society. I pay taxes that go to public education even though I don’t have kids, but I’m okay with that because I care about a functioning society. Same logic applies to public transit.
100 1
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
No thanks, I’ll pushing for equitable transit where I live. And no one’s forcing you to sell your car?
100 1
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
If you want to move more people in a dense city, transit is objectively better than driving. Not to mention kids, seniors, people with disabilities who all can’t drive.
200 2
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
Yeah we’ve seen a systemic disinvestment from public transit and a corresponding subsidy for private vehicles over the last few decades. IMO we need a massive long term reinvestment in transit for it to be seen as a better option than driving for most people.
110 1
Rishav @rrout2.github.io · 10/08/2025
Transit ridership is at its highest it’s been post-pandemic on most bay area transit agencies, even while having to deal with service cuts and fare increases and lack of federal funding. Imagine how much ridership would increase if there were actual service improvements and stable funding.
