We have a new candidate for oldest beer find in Europe: Solnitsata, Bulgaria, 4500 BCE. There is no archaeological report yet, so this still needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but sounds convincing so far. provadia-solnitsata.com/en/news/naso...

Have you listened to last week's episode with @casketbeer.bsky.social yet? It's a great conversation about the underappreciated styles of beer, like cask ale, plus the detailed world of proper glassware. Give it a listen at the link or on your favorite podcast app. sites.libsyn.com/197018/173-s...

One last push as voting closed end of this week: I created a beer with Belgian abbey brewery Grimbergen. A dark beer, I’m using leftover bread, 1/2 slice a bottle, a Stout that echoes Antwerpen Stout, created after WWII. please vote Stout(e) Regula 🖤 www.brouwmetmij.grimbergenbier.be/stemhier2026

No, it’s a gravity category, not a colour. Schlenkerla has a dark Märzen, Rothaus has a golden one.

St George, 23 April, until St Michael, which was the 29th September – so brewers can start brewing again now.

Bizarre that nobody at the brewery or marketing agency seems to have noticed that the label says “Otztoberfestbier”. It was like that last year too.

Not as far as I’m aware. Anyway, you’re not obliged to pay any attention to the various people who set themselves up as popes of beer styles.

The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

Oktoberfest time! A reminder that only two of the six breweries exclusively allowed to sell beer there are not owned by brewing conglomerates: Hofbräuhaus: State of Bavaria Augustiner: Independently owned Spaten, Löwenbräu: AB InBev Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr: part of a group, 30% owned by Heineken

My new book is finally out! A short, readable overall history of beer tracing the long lines in the development of beer. Seeing history like that inevitably brings out an overlooked side of the history of beer: beer as a source of massive power. Please repost! www.garshol.priv.no/download/pow...

If I have learned anything at all about “historical recreations” over the years, it is that the choice of recipe is always guided by what will fly in today’s market, rather than by what they were actually doing in the past.

If anyone is wondering what the new Tennent’s Stout tastes like, it tastes like nitro stout. It is a bit sweeter and more chocolately than Guinness and slightly less acidic.
A black keg font with the red Tennents logo and the word StoutTwo pint glasses of stout. The word stout can be read on the lettering printed on the glasses.

Occasionally the AF version is nicer. I had an AF Krombacher and the wortiness was preferable to the thin, over-attenuated alcoholic version.

2/ I mean, what do you have to do to be a part of the established narrative of prehistory and archaeology? I did a Masters, I spent 4 years applying in vain for a PhD, I attended conferences, presented papers, wrote papers, was shouted at by professors and made fun of cos I study beer and brewing.
