Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I much prefer this version of THE BLOB to the original. It's a big upgrade that pays plenty of homage to the original, with great characters, great FX, and it really goes for it in every way. Super fun and inventive. We need a 21st century version, it's overdue. #horrormovies #horrorsky #movies 141 0
Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 01/10/2026And when the New Beverly Cinema had a screening in May '23, I was there. My daughter asked why I was watching it so much. Took a while to figure what I think is the right answer: I went so long without rewatching this film that my brain wants to make up for lost time. Or maybe I'm... psycho. 🔪 010 0
Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 01/10/2026But at some point after Covid I stumbled across the film again, and it was like seeing an old friend. I snagged a copy of the script directly from its writer Tom Holland. I picked up the score, which I used to have on tape back in the day, along with the poster. I bought the blu ray. 100 0

Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 05/09/2026There are shots inside V'ger where Enterprise is sometimes just a dot on screen. That's what I wanted to see on the big screen -- and it didn't disappoint. Trumbull's effects are so revolutionary they still stand up today. That the DE version exists at all is a miracle IMO. 120 0
Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 05/09/2026The reason TMP gives us that slow exterior tour of the Enterprise in space dock is to deliver that massive sense of scale, then destroy it once Enterprise is swallowed by V'ger. 120 0
Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 05/09/2026The film's restored FX and minor editing changes to conform it with Robert Wise's desired vision make the film MUCH better than what was initially released. The visual scales -- the Enterprise, V'ger, the vastness of outer space -- still haven't been matched in any Trek film. 110 0
Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 05/09/2026The DE producer spoke in detail about how the film released in '79 was a rough cut due to a hard release date and delays in FX. I won't go into that nitty gritty as I already know it and it's not that interesting if you're not a hardcore Trekker. 110 0
Rob Sheppe @robsheppe.bsky.social · 05/09/2026After, I hung out in the hall to talk with them about Doug Trumbull a bit. I didn't like TMP much as a kid. I thought it was visually spectacular but slow. But I kept returning to the film, and it grew on me. I came to love it. It's basically an episode of Trek stretched into two hours. 100 0
