My documentary professor described "Triumph of the Will" as being "almost Wagnerian in its mythic significance", the most pretentious thing ever said. Later we found that EXACT PHRASE in our documentary text. For the rest of that semester, we used that phrase as often as possible just to mock him.

Right now someone is on a movie set making a lousy Amityville movie for no money and I just want to hug them, to tell them that they don’t need to do this. It’s not going to be good, and the only reason to do it is if the set itself is fun. Even then, go swimming instead.

I don’t think I ever understood fascism because old films of Hitler and whatnot made it look cartoonish and evil at once. Which it is. But living in it clarifies one thing: Fascism is, above all things, exhausting. For literally everyone. All day kayfabe from them and outrage from us. Fuck this.
