okay so this anecdote in Margaret's obituary has me crying because this is exactly what it's like being in tech and trying to anticipate failures and having men basically tell you you're being hysterical and then you have to fix it later
"the Lauren error": One day, her daughter Lauren, then four years old, was playing with the command module simulator at the
Instrumentation Lab when she somehow activated a pre-launch program, called P01, while the simulator was in midflight - which
crashed the simulator altogether. Hamilton created a program add-on in the technical documentation warning users not to launch P01 during flight.
She also proposed a software fix to prevent the error happening during a real mission, but she was overruled on the grounds that the highly trained astronauts were never going to make that same mistake. Yet during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, that's exactly what happened: Jim Lovell inadvertently launched P01 during the flight, causing the on-flight navigational data to vanish. Hamilton and her team were called in to solve the error, and after that her proposed changes were integrated into the program. This was an early example of "defensive" programming, the

I've been too busy to see the new Resident Evil movie in theaters, and it's leaving my local theaters this week. Bummer, but maybe they'll re-release for Halloween?

I think it's also symptomatic of the brainrot in our politics that Democrats are somehow *surprised* that trans people are upset about the Dems' active participation in genocide.

No candidate, regardless of party, will ever get my vote if they call me a "biological man" and advocate for laws targeting my community. Its that simple.

Blaming trans people and our friends for not wanting to vote for the Dems who see trans people as a "problem" to be "solved" is like blaming your date for getting the ick after you kept trying to talk during the movie. Buddy, it's not our fault your vibes now suck.

Talarico still excites many people. Some folks are now turned off by his comments on trans people in sports. That's politics. Ultimately, if Talarico and his supporters want to regain some of that excitement and support, they will have to walk it back and make amends.

If Dems fail to win the House or Senate, it's because they failed to present an alternative to fascism that excites people. Don't blame the voter because your message turned them off. The alternative to fascism is not less fascism. It must be something new, or else Dems won't win anything.

I WILL vote for the candidates running on unabashed unity, including full support for trans people, for immigrants, for the working class folks trying to afford groceries and gas in a failing economy. A candidate who has ideas on how to solve society's problems and intends to follow through.

So many people are insisting we vote for anti-trans Dems. Vote blue no matter who. But that's it. There's no alternative to fascism presented. No vision, no hope. Vote for me because I'm not him. I won't vote for an anti-trans Dem, whose only merit is not being as bad as the fascist next door.

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"
Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.
