The fruits of Tribulus cistoides were another bane of my childhood: They could puncture bicycle tires. Each mericarp has stout prickles that lodge into hooves, paws & rubber tires. Numbered divisions are centimeters. #Zygophyllaceae #epizoochory #Botany 🌾🧪🌱
Close-up photo of an intact and a shattered dried fruit of this plant. The separate mericarps have sharp pointed processes. A ruler provides scale and shows that these fruits are about 7 mm long. Photo by Scott Zona CC BY-NC 2.0.
