We've traditionally used N. benthamiana for transient color assays in our lab. We recently tried the same assay in N. tabacum and the results are ✨stunning✨! This plant was injected with an anthocyanin-activating R2R3-MYB on the left, and empty plasmid on the right.
A small green tobacco plant is shown. The farthest leaf has two visible injection sites. Deep purple color surrounds the injection sites in the left, while the site on the right is surrounded by a slighly pale green.

We've been growing monkeyflowers hydroponically for the past few months using the design by @atinygreencell.bsky.social. The plants are doing great, and this has given us the opportunity to experiment with some fun chemical treatments! The aesthetic appeal is also a nice bonus!
Three different species of monkeyflower are seen growing in a simple hydroponics system. The three species are Mimulus verbenaceus, Mimulus cardinalis, and Mimulus parishii. Each plant is secured in a separate 250 ml flask using an orange plastic collar and a foam plug. The plants looks healthy and happy.

Hello BlueSky 👋🏼 I'm new to this community so here's a quick intro--I'm an Asst. Research Prof in the Yuan lab at UConn. I use the anthocyanin leaf stripe phenotype of Mimulus verbenaceus (pictured) to study the genetics, development, and evolution of novel phenotypes. Also love running & dogs.
A small plant grows directly out of red rocks in Sedona, AZ. The plant has a large red flower and green leaves with a purplish mediolateral stripe across each leaf.
