Birmingham will have been a majority minority town & city since at least the mid 1800s.

It had been a very "high" Anglican service, loads of incense, communion, the full works. Rather wondered if his deity was not happy.

Went to a funeral there a few years back. Burial in the churchyard was delayed by a downpour (roadway awash) but eventually went ahead only to be followed by a second downpour. Had visions of the coffin being elevated back out of the grave. Naughty me.

So powerful ... Am not yet clear why. Evoking in me a similar response I had when I first saw "The State Hospital" by Ed Kienholz, which was not long before my dad went into his final decline and died. Imvho Conceptual Art plays a role in coping with loss when sometimes no other can. Tysm.

youtu.be/KsW-k4bpP0k?... Republican pollster Frank Luntz has a valuable message for those of us buoyed up by the favourable polling that Democrats have at the moment. ... the exit polling on election night could be very skewed towards Democrats. The reason? MAGA voters tend to just walk on by.

Opinions vary as to whether these corbels at Tewkesbury Abbey depict either Adam and Eve or the founders of the Abbey Robert Fitzhamon and his wife. Whichever is correct, I particularly like the positioning of their arms and hands, it looks so natural. #SundayStonework

#PhotoFriday today is the Kyrle Hall, Sheep Street. Built in the late 19th century by Mr. J. Bowen to designs by Arts and Crafts architect, William Bidlake. Ref – WK/B11/3450 #LibraryofBham #Brumpic

A photo of a row of properties. A shop in the near foreground on the bottom right with people stood out outside. The largest property in the row is next - an impressive Arts and Crafts three storey building with a turret. A row of balcony windows below this and two bay windows beneath this. Two terraced houses at the end of the row.

At Deerhurst, a kitchen in the nave and a bedroom in the chancel concealed an Anglo-Saxon chapel built in 1056 by a kinsman of Edward the Confessor. Rediscovered in 1865, it had survived hidden in plain sight - a thousand-year thread absorbed into an ordinary home.

Weird Guitar of the Day @weirdguita.rs · 05/10/2026

Serracini custom

I found a modern guitar that's a nice counterpart to the one I posted yesterday. Hold on tight, because this thing is weird.

Here's Italian guitarist Luca Stricagnoli holding a triple-neck acoustic guitar that was made for him by fellow Italian Davide Serracini.

The top neck has 6 strings and can be tuned like a normal guitar, but Luca has it tuned to an open tuning that I haven't been able to find out.
The middle (soprano) neck has 7 treble strings that are tuned to a major scale, but without the 7th note.

The third (bass) neck has a fretboard that extends all the way down to where the bridge is on the middle neck. It has three strings that are tuned high to low, and it's only fretted on 2/3rds of the length. The best way I can describe it is to imagine taking a right-handed Steinberger bass and attaching it to a right-handed acoustic guitar so the fretboard of the bass is under the bridge of the acoustic and the body hangs off the end.

I dunno how anybody comes up with this stuff, but this account wouldn't exist if they didn't.

That rolling hitch round the stainless steel post ... It's got the form of a constrictor knot ... You'll need your knife to get that undone once it's been under load. I've just asked "it" about the difference between a Stuns'l Halyard bend and a Tops'l Halyard bend and, fair play, it tried, wrong.

Thank you for posting this. The first, last and only place I saw metal cups on chains was in the 1950s in a play area with roundabouts, slides, a witch's hat & swings. And a big sand pit that gave it the name "The sand park". On the border of Birmingham and Smethwick. It became GKN's car park.

As a child in the late 50s early 60s I went to an infant school near the Plough & Harrow. Many of my classmates were Jewish. I knew nothing of the Holocaust. My classmates never discussed it. Yet almost certainly some of their uncles, aunts and grandparents were murdered. I still cannot fathom.

Linking it with the official marriage indexes, as they claim, might be biting off a little more than they'd really like to chew, imvho. (Screenshot from FreeBMD of approx 10 years of Mary Parkes marriages for "Warwickshire") Mapping the Parkes's in the nearby #BlackCountry will be even tougher!

Taken from FreeBMD we see a portion of a list of marriages between around 1841 and around 1851 in Warwickshire of ladies named Mary Parkes.

Part of it, imvho, is that some of us survived the pandemic lockdowns by pouring our souls into Twitter. The daily hashtag rituals where we went to our photos, trinkets and humour to add them to that days hashtag. For company. To feel part of something bigger when intensely alone. All blown away.
