Starlings over the Helter Skelter, Brighton. 1000s arrive here every winter from as far as Scandinavia & somehow they move as one in a murmuration. Each bird is only reacting to its 7 closest neighbours, a phenomenon known as phase transition, yet the whole group ripples like a single living thing.

A 0.8-mile-wide, dust-eating tornado and its supercell structure just north of Morton, TX on 05-23-2022. A locked gate across the road prevented me from getting any closer, but even through all the dust from this distance, its size was staggering. #Photography
A large, dark wedge tornado looms on the horizon over a dry, flat, and grassy plains landscape. The storm structure above the tornado is dark and ominous with clouds swirling. A line of wooden telephone poles and a fence stretch along the left side of the frame, leading toward the massive storm in the distance.

Dry weather sewage discharges soar as water companies face scrutiny
Exclusive: 7,280 suspected illegal spills in rivers and sea recorded in first five months of 2026 The number of suspected illegal discharges of raw sewage into rivers and seas by water companies during dry weather increased significantly during the first five months of 2026. Dumping raw sewage into waterways during dry spells via overflows amounts to pollution. It is considered a breach of the permits given to water companies and is illegal. Discharging during dry weather increases the toxicity of the sewage pollution entering waterways. Rivers have less flow and volume, and there is no rainwater to dilute the sewage pollution entering the waterway. Continue reading...
