Let me tell you about a small incident that happened in this Rhodes hotel last night, that should have been nothing but literally kept me awake because of our rape culture and all the things in this story.

Like others in the quote skeets, I stopped going to BM exhibitions a couple of years ago after some unpleasantly overcrowded ones. Looks like they're not only still on that bullshit but have managed to turbocharge it.

It's been ~30 years since I was on holiday in a 'tourist resort' and among the many ways the locals have thought about how to make northern Europeans feel at home, the people of Rhodes clearly looked at each other and said, as one, "Coldplay".

Behold, the world's smallest cow
A silly photo messing with perspective. A hilly grassy field with 4 cows, three quite far away, one a little closer. The person who took the photo is next to the fence, and the closest cow appears to be standing on top of a fence post.

This Guardian article is headlined 'Fairford bomb plot', no quote marks. But the penultimate paragraph says "After the suspects’ release it emerged that no explosive material had been found.". Someone have a word with the subs?

Rubio says foreign actor was ‘clearly’ behind suspected RAF Fairford bomb plot
The US secretary of state offered no evidence for his claims, and also said many people were ‘disturbed’ that the five suspects had been released on bail

Got a chocolate koulhouri and vanilla/chocolate milkshake in a cafe. Owner just brought out a glass of iced water ("so you can have a break from the chocolate") and damn, she was right, it was all getting a bit much.
Two plastic cups, one with iced water and another with the remnants of milkshake.

I think Rhodes is going to break my heart. This little man was so happy with head scritches he dribbled, and he meeped every time I stopped.

Greece is still ignoring EES isn't it? All the machines at Rhodes are turned off and immigration is being done manually. I've been queuing for 30 minutes and look to be only halfway through. This is apparently... the better option.

Stolpersteine are fantastic - difficult to miss, always make me stop and wonder about those named. And that's the problem for these far-right fuckers isn't it? Don't want constant reminders that the Nazi's victims were people.

All this Danny Thommo stuff makes me think of a family tradition we do every Boxing Day, and no its not all going stabbing lifeboats and intimidating lifeguards! Sorry longish thread as its a great story of actual heroes that should make us all feel patriotic.

being so fr when I say that transmisogyny has put feminism back like 50 years

seravph
what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past 'dresses are for women and pants are for men. i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we've made

I really hate the framing of these stories as "an AI agent broke out and hacked something." No, an inadequate sandbox meant that a powerful and unpredictable computer program was set loose on the open internet by the company that designed it. The agency isn't with the "AI agent", it's with the firm

This is such a deliciously cynical take on 'why AI companies have suddenly decided to tell us all they're dangerous' and I bloody love it

OK, this situation again except with 3 women in the four-seats. This time asked the person on the aisle if she could get up instead of making me clamber over her. She moved her knees to the side. I should have accidentally hit her in the face with my laptop bag.

Saturday 30 August 1997 I worked the late shift at our local cinema. Clocked out at 1am, got home, ate a sandwich in front of the TV which, in 1997, basically meant Sky News. Saw the breaking news of the car crash.

I take great delight in asking these people (including those sitting on the aisle, trying to claim the double seat), with all the innocence I can muster, if I can sit there. MWHAHAHA motherfuckers.

ALSO the RAH has reworked its ground floors toilets so the men had to queue. Everyone waiting for the ladies' was quietly fist pumping. (It looked like they've taken space from the gents and built more women's stalls.)
