Yeah, Lewisham's pest control prices are very reasonable. New cat will have to wait until the summer at least - getting the whole garden dug up and redone, no need to get a cat used to one thing and then subject it to upheaval.

Plumber is coming on Monday! Thankfully I know exactly where they're getting in, there's just been a poorly-thought through blocking job that left this pipe exposed.

There's a hole in the wall behind the loo - it used to be blocked over but a previous workman left the hole open and blocked up the gaps either side of the toilet base. So the rats are getting in, having a gnaw, fucking off again.

Mainly I need a hole in the wall blocking up, but it's noticeable that I only started hearing scratching once he was no longer around...

Fucking rats have been at my toilet pipework

Oooo Hannah's got away with it! Now she can hammer her point home but they'll probably still vote her out #CelebrityTraitors

Thing is, Hannah just made absolutely the correct point but now she's going to be voted out as a Traitor and they're going to ignore it #CelebrityTraitors

If we had a federal government that wasn't firmly up the ass of Big AI, they'd make it a crime for an AI to put people in mortal danger by sending them into wilderness areas with fictional instructions. If a human kept doing this, they'd probably go to jail, even under existing laws.

This is a very good piece that explains what Zionism is, why it's so fundamental to Judaism, and why this Green conference resolution is so utterly toxic and racist to its core www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The Green party’s anti-Zionism motion is yet another attempt to tell Jews how we should think | Jonathan Freedland
The resolution shows little understanding of what Zionism is, who Jews are or how antisemitism works, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

Question: flying back yesterday, we were near Eastbourne and I saw this feature: a sudden rise in the ground and then it flattens off. Someone will know what it is - natural? Ancient fortifications? I'm fascinated.
Photo of a plane wing and green fields below, with a coastline beyond. Towards the coast the landscape suddenly rises and then flattens out like some kind of hill fort or ancient mine.

I doubt you'd make a point of staring at anyone in a hotel corridor though!

Rachel Holdsworth @rmholdsworth.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I don't usually get stared at - I'm small, middle aged, grey haired = basically invisible. Maybe that's partly why my brain immediately went 'danger! Danger!' 😂

Hehe, I love it when it's one I can say 'been there!'. It had Yunokamionsen train station the other day, the exact placement that's famous for a sakura shot in spring.

I Googled electronic door keys and whether they can override a deadlock (I always, always, use the deadlock). Generally they can't, there are only one or two master keys in a hotel and they should be guarded. (Still, I've known housekeeping override a deadlock in other hotels.)

Rachel Holdsworth @rmholdsworth.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Still, I'm so unnerved that I go into my room. And then start kicking myself - this guy now knows where I am. What if he waits until his partner is asleep and goes to reception claiming to be my husband? What if he starts knocking on my door at 3am?

Rachel Holdsworth @rmholdsworth.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Now, the lift is offset slightly from the corridor so he has to deliberately move into the sightline to stare at me, but he's doing it. He probably just wants to check I'm not here to break into a room or something.

Rachel Holdsworth @rmholdsworth.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
That lift took forever so I dawdled in the corridor near several room doors, pantomiming not being able to find the key. Still not heard the lift so I looked back at the couple and the guy is STARING at me.

I had dinner early and came back fairly early. As I walked down the hotel corridor I passed a middle aged couple waiting at a lift. Now, I have a rule that I never go into my room, or indicate which it is, when someone else is around (I tend to travel on my own).

Let me tell you about a small incident that happened in this Rhodes hotel last night, that should have been nothing but literally kept me awake because of our rape culture and all the things in this story.

I guess it's not as convenient as central London, but the exhibition did make me realise how straightforward it will be to get to Bayeaux at a future point.

If the BM has these nicely printed cards saying 'oops! You're not getting in today' then it's clearly an ongoing issue.

Rachel Holdsworth @rmholdsworth.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Like others in the quote skeets, I stopped going to BM exhibitions a couple of years ago after some unpleasantly overcrowded ones. Looks like they're not only still on that bullshit but have managed to turbocharge it.

It's been ~30 years since I was on holiday in a 'tourist resort' and among the many ways the locals have thought about how to make northern Europeans feel at home, the people of Rhodes clearly looked at each other and said, as one, "Coldplay".

Behold, the world's smallest cow
A silly photo messing with perspective. A hilly grassy field with 4 cows, three quite far away, one a little closer. The person who took the photo is next to the fence, and the closest cow appears to be standing on top of a fence post.

This Guardian article is headlined 'Fairford bomb plot', no quote marks. But the penultimate paragraph says "After the suspects’ release it emerged that no explosive material had been found.". Someone have a word with the subs?

Rubio says foreign actor was ‘clearly’ behind suspected RAF Fairford bomb plot
The US secretary of state offered no evidence for his claims, and also said many people were ‘disturbed’ that the five suspects had been released on bail

Got a chocolate koulhouri and vanilla/chocolate milkshake in a cafe. Owner just brought out a glass of iced water ("so you can have a break from the chocolate") and damn, she was right, it was all getting a bit much.
Two plastic cups, one with iced water and another with the remnants of milkshake.
