On National Poetry Day, here’s a short poem about the power of poetry to change the world.
The Power of Poetry

with things falling apart
and anarchy let loose,

it was only poetry, he found,
which had any use,

so he reached for his copy
of The Complete Works of Yeats

and bludgeoned the President
of the United States

I was wondering about going up to London to see this, but in the end decided the cost of getting there, plus the tickets to get in, was prohibitive given that we’ve both seen it before in France. Now feeling slightly relieved.

I see we’ve got the BBC doing its thing, both-siding the possibility that the UK might want to revisit Brexit. So Newsnight got Andrew “I’m completely neutral” Neil in to savage some poor Labour chap. Depressing.

I’m not a Burnham fan. I was unimpressed when he was originally in parliament, and I really hated his coup. But I can forgive him all that and more after his speech yesterday. Ok, God knows how hard any of it will be, but it’s a vision I can really get behind. ❤️ tinyurl.com/4vhbdjsx

You should prosecute politicians when they break the small laws, because you won’t have the chance later, when they break the big ones.

This is just simply brilliant. We should have these outside every public toilet. And for anyone wanting to turn this into a Trans issue, please don’t, because it isn’t.

This seems pretty sensible; it’s really just an extended trial, operating one route from a distribution center to one handpicked store, with plans to extend it by adding stores over time (presumably if successful, and as they learn any lessons)

It’s a fine statement. But it doesn’t mention Manchester, and lacks “vibe”. A bit too “Starmerish” for Burnhams liking.

American is not a democracy. If Musk can spend $260M supporting the candidates he likes, how is his vote and some Kentuckian farmers vote equal? Musk is voting millions of times over, based solely on his wealth.

Desperately sad to hear of the death of Dolly Parton. Not a fan of country music, but her music often transcended that genre, and was always worth listening to. I am however, a huge fan of her philanthropy; she never forgot the poverty she came from, and was a force for good in the world. RIP x

I have little sympathy, frankly. They all leapt at the opportunity to expand and commercialise university education, charge the maximum fees, pay themselves big bucks … and now they want to socialise their losses? A contraction of their market is happening, and the devil will take the hindmost.

Woken by … rain! First rainfall we’ve seen here in around 6 weeks. Better yet, it’s a really gentle drizzle that might have a chance of soaking into the ground, rather than just running off and causing flooding. Still 24C mind, but it _feels_ cooler. Much cooler. Might have to go find a sweater. 🙄
