As we wrap up Week 3 of Season 2 of #EnduringPlay with @stevebromley.bsky.social : does your #gamedev team equate UX with making the game "too easy"? Start by aligning on what your intentional friction is so that you can easily identify what's NOT and how to fix it. sites.libsyn.com/586820/s2-e3...
Enduring Play, a game dev podcast hosted by Cheryl Platz, Season 2 Episode 3 featuring Steve Bromley: "It speaks to one of the fears that teams might have when they're doing play testing or considering playtesting or research where it's going to make the game too easy. Which is why I think it's really important when teams are considering “what does success look like for our test?” to start by understanding their creative vision doing work internally. To talk about: “what do we want this game to be? How do we want players to feel when they're playing it? How will we then recognize if it's achieving that or not?” For some games, we want this to be someone's first platformer, and so help them be able to go through core platform mechanics like teach them how to jump or teach them how to move left or right."

I am pleased to announce my new company Intended Experience! (intendedexperience.nz) In any endeavour you will have an experience in mind that you want your audience to receive. Work with me to make your Intended Experience the User Experience! #gamedev #ux
This image shows a diagram that has arrows moving from Developer to Intended Experience. That Intended Experience is then filtered through the environment (technology, money, time), and produces the game or product. Then the product goes to the user and their environment which produces the User Experience. In the case of this example the intended experience was a Dinosaur, but the user experience was a chicken. That chicken user experience then is reported to the developer via User Experience Research. They then iterate through the same cycle as above to produce a game/product that has both a dino as the intended experience and the user experience.

The abstract alone is pure art.
Abstract
Four hundred and nineteen experienced qualitative researchers from 32 countries invite readers of Qualitative Inquiry to consider their position on use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for qualitative research. We hold the position that analytic approaches such as reflexive thematic analysis are human research practices requiring a subjective, positioned, and reflexive researcher and therefore the use of GenAI in such approaches is not methodologically congruent. We additionally reject GenAI for reflexive qualitative approaches on the grounds of social and environmental justice.
