I saw a statement on LinkedIn that said “Transmedia IP needs mass appeal to win.” Why? It’s easier than ever to launch across media. The why is probably “spending too much on launching a debut property.” A deeply engaged core can be more sustaining. Transmedia doesn’t equal mass media.

This is a tough one. Origin console - NES (did have an Atari, but still.) The NES games that leap out are Super Mario 2 because PRINCESS PEACH + strategy, and Adventures in the Magic Kingdom which was relevant to ALL of my interests and influenced some of my future game designs. #gamedev

This release includes a TON of new features - from the first additional Expanded cards supported since launch to an entirely new Missions feature and a completely new dynamically updated Battle Board - but don't forget to play with sound on to hear the 30th Celebration theme music!

I'll tell you one job that doesn't seem to be going away with AI - editors. I've watched people try and write bots to mimic editors, but the taste of the editor was still required. And the slop posts on social media are getting... longer? Why? Folks, more than half of writing is throwing it away.

I checked twice to see if this was an Onion/parody headline Because “there’s no way that would be their policy stance, right? Surely THAT is the satire line these days…” Well, good on the judge. (And maybe they were “just” cutting costs. But the impact is the same regardless)

The whole “opting people into AI training” on Twitch thing right at my 10th anniversary of streaming has me thinking about where we go from here. I’ve enjoyed Twitch and it’s been an important part of my life and my community’s life, but I also don’t think it’s necessarily trustworthy now.

I feel like we are going to see a lot more “unintentional” unalivings before they work out that this was removing too much friction from a process where friction was there for a reason

I love that this uses Erika’s extensive background in UX research, which prepares you to interact with people and lead with curiosity in sometimes awkward situations, and shares that for other use cases. We sometimes forget that the training we got as researchers had ✨bonus benefits✨

Let this be your reminder that groups of humans at every scale and size forget to align on goals - and when we forget, things get worse. It is never a bad idea to stop and make sure you’re all making the same thing worth making. We all need that reminder. EVEN SPIDER-MAN.

Data analysis AI will really confidently argue with you and tell you it didn’t just send you an unrequested email this morning (it totally did) because it doesn’t fully understand its own script logic it is SO seductive when it gives you good outputs but you have to be SO careful

Want to REALLY break your brain? Read this then go look up “oral allergy syndrome” All the fun with the spicy fruits and veg, none of the deterministic blood test results. You get spicy produce because of (checks notes) POLLEN LEVELS. It’s allergies on hard mode

Humans are surprisingly incurious as a collective. It’s not until a doctor told me “you know the normal amount of pain is NONE, right?” that I realized I had become horribly miscalibrated in a dangerous way. And powering through pain IS DANGEROUS. It hides allergies, tumors, heart issues…

I can’t speak to this directly as I’m using an enterprise Miro plan. But I think we all know what it’s like to have Microsoft’s AI features interfering. And even on Enterprise, Miro has embedded upsell features like Prototyping with misleading patterns that trap you multiple times. Don’t love it.

The only way forward imo, is to spread the good news of More Than One Thing Can Be True to break out of these pernicious nonsense dichotomies. For example, public health measures can be annoying and inconvenient and expensive and tedious and not 100% effective and also the best course of action.

One accomplishment I got in under the wire last week: for the first time in a long time, I hit the highest ranked tier in Pokémon TCG Live. It is REALLY hard to balance #gamedev, grinding ranked in production, personal events and writing and travel, etc. - but I did it! Bespoke deck.

A deck called “Venus Victory” in Pokémon TCG Live, with Budew Year cosmetics and Mega Venusaur / Ogerperon / Crustle as the main Pokémon.
