And of course ill and disabled people living for years with pain, exhaustion, isolation, lower income, cuts to social care and potential loss of independence, relationships and career are having such an easy time. Let's make life even harder for those layabouts! #thenastierparty

Why does "worked hard all their lives" keep turning up whenever tax or welfare cuts are discussed? Is it because it quietly sorts people into deserving and undeserving. Plenty of people on benefits and low pay work hard too, and plenty of hard workers never get rich. #bbcwato #wato

Exactly, there were '2,877 heat-associated deaths during two periods of hot weather in May and June 2026, almost double the figure reported annually for 2025'. How many more patients will have been admitted to (sometimes dangerously overheated) wards this summer - piling on bed pressure?

This is such a good piece about the proposed national care service. About 35% of council's case loads are working age adults, but about 50% of their spend is. They are more complex and varied in their requirements than the average older person.

Cuts to care worker visas - and poor retention rates of UK born workers - will mean that more elderly & ill/disabled people are left in distress from unmet care needs (leading to more hospital stays). Even complex care agencies can't always cover shifts. @mrjamesob.bsky.social @lbc.co.uk #lbc
