Devonians were horrified to learn last week of plans for a massive AI data centre near Great Torrington, north Devon. The proposals from company XLinks Ltd would cover 850 acres of farmland. But who owns the land? I decided to investigate. 1/ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Instead of this mealy-mouthed crap about access being dangerous, why don't Dŵr Cymru put some of those most expensive water bills in the UK toward doing your job and facilitating access? And quit filling our rivers with shite while you're at it. Read the room.

2/ Releasing free data & maps of who owns the vast majority of land will enable greater public scrutiny of what goes on behind the barbed-wire fences that crisscross the countryside. The new Land Use Framework is an ambitious step towards making England a greener, fairer and more pleasant land.

This is a great news story. But it's also an interesting access story; revealing of how we talk, and think, about access rights. Nightjar are an 'amber' list species. They're ground nesters. And they roost in the sorts of habitats which often overlap with existing access land in England and Wales.

Kneecap's Mo Chara is the latest example of how terrorism arrests no longer bear any relationship whatsoever to any actual threat to the British public (and certainly not the audience at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town). Instead they've become the end product of contrived rightwing outrage

WE WON! The Supreme Court has upheld the right to wild camp on Dartmoor. This is a huge win for access to nature. But we're just getting started. It was never just about Dartmoor. We’re fighting to extend the right to roam, swim, and sleep under the stars - across all of England.

The Supreme Court, most UK institutions, have been captured by the campaign of stochastic terrorism waged by the media and the fascists against our Trans comrades, now defining them out of the Equality Act, as Streeting removes what little there is of trans healthcare in this country. This isn’t allowing access to wind spaces, it is extending the rule of enclosure to those with money to pay for this access. It’s an exclusivity model that continues to separate people from the land. Right to roam means a right to roam for all.

There's a reason that AI is so beloved by fascists right now—like fascism, it tempts us to abandon the complexity of the world for the simplicity of power, & to give up the need to do the difficult but necessary work to understand the world by allowing some authority to impose its own understanding

There’s no leader in a murmuration, but starlings on the outer edges of the group have a part to play in steering them, they are a complex adaptive system. It seems to me reflective of grass-roots organising, where change comes through the outer parts, to ripple through the rest of the community.
