One with the Earth

Dear Friends,

Welcome to R60: One with the Earth. We are honoured that you are joining us for this celebration.

As Resurgence marks an outstanding 60 years of nourishing the human spirit, ecological awareness and community spirit, this event is designed to ‘stop the clock’ on an outside world often filled with fragmentation and loss, and instead forge a space of radical love, beauty, hope and trust in the Earth and one another that can be absorbed by each of us and amplified through the outside world.

Our gathering today is held by a central idea: One with the Earth. Not the Earth as a resource or an object to be used, but as a living organism – a source of life we belong to and depend on. Human wellbeing and the wellbeing of the natural world are two sides of the same coin. We are not separate from Nature. We are Nature. We are One.

Over 60 years, so much has been learnt, protected, and passed on through Resurgence, and we want to celebrate this. At the same time,
we do not want to only look backwards, or simply agree with each other about how far there still is to go. The invitation is to recognise what has
been achieved and to look forward: to ask how we move further and more consciously towards oneness with the Earth.

Through our time here together, we hope to move beyond categories of speakers or guests so that each one of us steps forward as a true Trustee of the Earth.

We thank you for bringing your energy, vision and heart to the Resurgence experience. We will look boldly towards the future together.

With love and gratitude,
Satish Kumar

Recorded in the English countryside and along the dust roads of India, the film moves at walking pace: an invitation to listen, to slow down, and to consider what an ethical life might look like in a burning world.

Resurgence Talk: Vicki Hird – ‘Rebugging the farm’

Wednesday 29 July • 7—8pm BST • FREE via Zoom

Visit https://resurgenceevents.orgHarvest celebration – Lammas: ancient wisdom, guided meditation, Nature connection and self-reflection

Tuesday 28 July • 6.30—7.30pm BST • FREE via Zoom

At the beginning of the harvest season, let us celebrate the generosity, abundance and gifts of Nature by reflecting on how we can share our gifts with the world.

Let us honour the natural world by turning to it as a teacher and as a guide in reflection. Let us embrace Nature — both around us and within us — through meditation and Nature-connection practices and by honouring the wisdom of the ancient people of these lands.

Resurgence Earth Festivals gatherings are hosted by Georgie Gilmore, a meditation teacher who has a deep love for the Earth. Having spent a number of years teaching meditation to adults and teenagers as a way of supporting their wellbeing, Georgie now guides meditation in a way that seeks to tend to the wellbeing of both people and planet.

Visit https://resurgenceevents.orgBlue and green meditations

Fridays 17 and 24 July • 8—8.30am BST • FREE via Zoom

Discover the meditative qualities of two beautiful colours from Gaia’s palette with these free events. The natural world is bursting with beautiful greens from Earth’s vegetation and brilliant blues from water and the vast sky. They are a big part of our connection to Earth’s bounty, and, as Nature lovers and artists, we may find they instinctively help us to relax.

With deeper contemplation, discover what colour may convey and how it enhances our lives. Rowena’s new guided meditations will help us appreciate the vibrancy of life as we delve deeply within each colour to inspire wellbeing, inner peace and revitalisation.

Greening our cities How might we learn to see our cities not as places apart from Nature, but as living communities of soil, soul and society? Find out more > conta.cc/476OfAh #Urban #Nature #GreenCities #SustainableLiving #Community
GREENING OUR CITIES - Urban spaces might seem unlikely places for wildlife to flourish, yet new research shows that even small pockets of greenery can make a remarkable difference. A study led by ecologist Luis Mata at the University of Melbourne found that planting indigenous species in cities can rapidly restore biodiversity. In just three years, a once-disturbed lawn in Melbourne was transformed into a thriving habitat rich with insect life.LIVING CITIES - This archival issue of Resurgence & Ecologist marked COP26 with a special issue dedicated to cities. Currently, more than half the world’s population live in cities — a number expected to rise to over two-thirds by 2030.

Cities are energy hungry and are major emitters of greenhouse gas emissions. As well as being a cause of the crisis, however, with better planning, transport and food cities are also part of the solution. URBAN GRADENS - In this reflection on urban renewal, Satish Kumar reimagines our cities as living ecosystems rather than places separate from Nature.

From rooftop rainwater harvesting to local food grown in allotments, orchards and small urban farms, he envisions cities that nourish both people and the planet. Looking for practical ways to reduce your carbon footprint?

Our friends at Carbon Savvy share simple, accessible guidance on living well while treading more lightly on the Earth. Their newsletter offers thoughtful tips, resources and travel blogs to help individuals and communities move towards a lower-carbon future.

Marking the launch of his latest book Peace is Possible (Bloomsbury Publishing UK, 2026) Satish Kumar will speak about peace among nations, and how peace is not only urgently needed but also how it is possible. Satish will suggest that peace is more than an absence of war but instead a way of living in harmony with each and all. He calls for us to make peace with ourselves, with nature and with all the peoples of the world. This year, in his 90th birthday celebration, Satish is reminding the world that peace is not just a distant dream but that peace is achievable here and now.

Satish Kumar is an activist and internationally renowned speaker on ecological issues. Born in India, he has been a Jain monk, nuclear disarmament advocate and pacifist. He walked 8,000 miles from India to America for peace. Now living in England, Kumar is founder and honorary president of Schumacher College, Editor Emeritus of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine and a Fellow of the Temenos Academy.
