Large anti-racism gatherings in Belfast, Glasgow, Sheffield, Londonderry/Derry and Brighton and they get much less news coverage than when a few hundred racists march. Our news coverage needs to do better. The vast majority don’t agree with Yaxley-Lennon, Farage and Lowe

Can’t vouch for its accuracy but even if only some of this pic is correct, it shows the legal tangle necessary to make shooting pheasants legal. And presumably the correlation between our lawmakers and those who call massacring animals for fun ‘sport’. (Sorry can’t credit artist.)
Flow chart highlighting the need to regularly reclassify pheasants as livestock or wildlife according to their treatment, from rearing and releasing to feeding and shooting, in order to make the practice legal.

Latest Senedd Research report has shown that road casualties in Wales dropped significantly after implementing the default 20mph limit when compared to England and Scotland. Another reason to say #20splenty where people are.

What impact has 20mph had on road safety in Wales?
The introduction of a default 20mph speed limit on restricted roads in Wales in September 2023 generated significant public debate. The policy increased the share of roads with a 20mph limit from 2% to 37% as of September 2023.

The well timed heckle… The original FB post is about a golf club restricting access to a public footpath to stop damage caused by youths on motorbikes. However, this ‘heckle’ is a gem
A Facebook comment saying “I’m a member of the golf club and feel really sorry about access for all has been limited. The damage was caused by electric bikes, ripping up various and greens and fairways. You cannot see it from the path. It is the usual story, a mindless few are spoiling it for everyone.”

Good old Daily Telegraph spreading (financial) fear with a scenario that actually only affects <1% of households
Infographic from Daily Telegraph’s Money section titled “Homeowners’ receipt” listing taxes paid on a £2 million UK home over 30 years. It shows stamp duty of £154,000 described as tax paid to buy a £2m house; council tax of £318,000 for a Band H home; a mansion tax of £138,000 described as Labour’s new surcharge; VAT of £29,000 added to building and maintenance work; and inheritance tax of £1.44 million described as estimated death duties. The graphic states a total tax cost over 30 years of £2.08 million.

Strange to see Telegraph writer Charlotte Gifford call people who help HMRC collect the right tax “snitches.” Even her own sources — an accountant and an HMRC spokesman — stress how valuable whistleblower information is. After all, tax funds the services society relies on.
Telegraph article text saying “HM Revenue and Customs received a record number of tip-offs last year from individuals snitching on neighbours and businesses.” Telegraph article text “John Hood, of accountancy firm Moore Kingston Smith, said:
“Obtaining high quality, up-to-date information from whistleblowers will greatly assist HMRC’s efforts to target high-value tax avoidance and evasion.”
An HMRC spokesman said:
“The Government is strengthening our scheme for rewarding informants to encourage reporting of high value tax fraud and tax avoidance.””

The comments below this article lament that GP waiting rooms aren’t full of coughing patients anymore — a complaint I just can’t fathom. If a phone or video call does the job, great. And if I do need to go in, I’d rather not be surrounded by people with potentially contagious illnesses.
Newspaper text saying “One in three GP appointments in England are not face-to-face, the highest proportion since the Covid pandemic.
A third (33.3 per cent) of appointments across the country in June were carried out either over the phone or online. The figure is up from 30.9 per cent a year earlier in June 2024, and 28.3 per cent in June 2023, according to an analysis of NHS England data.
Family doctors said remote consultations “offer convenience and flexibility that many patients value”, and the majority of appointments are still delivered face-to-face”
