The finalists for the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards have been announced. 🎉 Here’s a selection of the funniest photos of wildlife to brighten your day.
Badger cub sitting and looking down, as if exhausted. The background is blurred. Three giraffes standing side by side on the open, dry savanna looking towards the camera. Right behind the middle one stood a single umbrella acacia, perfectly lined up with its head and neck, making the giraffe appear as if 'wearing' the tree, like a green hairdo or a rather fancy hat.A tiny green mantis peeks over a leaf in nighttime setting. The mantis seems to be sunbathing or striking a rather glamorous pose. But there is also a small visual trick: half of the insect is hidden behind the leaf. Its hind legs disappear from view and, suddenly, its enormous forelegs begin to look almost like a pair of human legsA squirrel in grass, with greenery in front of its face, with its paws raised up.

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

Russia occupies Oleshky. Around 2,000 civilians remain and run out of food, medicine, water and electricity. Russia, as the occupying power, is responsible for facilitating humanitarian relief. Ukraine found another way in: its forces delivered ~4 tons of food by drone to 100 locations across town.

Smile, it’s Friday! 😃 Meet ‘The Oldest Smile in the World’ a tiny face that’s been smiling for some 7,400 years! Carved from oak during the Mesolithic, this small human figure was found in 1966 in a layer of peat during dock construction at Willemstad in the Netherlands. #FindsFriday #Archaeology
My photo shows a human figure roughly carved from dark brown oak wood during the Mesolithic period about 5,400-5,300 BC. It is 12.5 cm tall with a long body with two finger-shaped indents on the right hand side (left in my photo), suggesting it was made to be held in the hand. The stylized head has deeply carved eyes, nose, and open mouth. The triangular shape of the mouth makes it look as if the figure is smiling, leading to its description as ‘The oldest smile in the world’. It is displayed against a black display case background at Landesmuseum Halle in Germany where the figure is currently on loan for the ‘Shamaness’ exhibition. It is part of the permanent collections of Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, Leiden, Netherlands. It was found in a layer of peat in 1966 during the construction of a dock at Willemstad, North Brabant, Netherlands.

William Morris was one of the principal figures of the British arts and crafts movement. These beautiful pen and ink drawings with watercolour were made by him around 1867. Both of these designs were used for a stained-glass window, dated 1869, in the Church of St Michael, Tilehurst, Berkshire.

re: Piddlington. I actually also think it’s the wrong location for an asylum centre, it’s the middle of nowhere on a deadly road and no safe way to walk to Bicester, let alone get to oxford, an asylum centre should be right in town with access to resources like drs and dentists and help centres.
