And yes, the 'machine' is a puree of ideas and thoughts stolen from you, me, and half the people on this site, so they're actually riding on *our* shoulders 3/3

What kills me is that it's no longer Internet randos using AI to cosplay as philosophers, historians or scientists. It's established philosophers, historians and scientists surrendering their hard-won intellectual agency and integrity in a rapid cascade, faster than even my darkest prediction. 1/1

if someone wrote an apologia piece like this about my rapist i would be utterly fucking incandescent. i'm sorry this is disgusting we do not, in fact, need to discuss the nuance of raping someone, facing no consequence, and then making tons of money over the next ten years as a public figure

Impossible to be a creative of any description and not be overwhelmed with anger right now. I wouldn't trust any kind of artist that thinks this is all fine. They would have to be a total fraud.

New blog! As an editor, I think deleting all adverbs is bad writing (and self-editing) advice. Writing is about making choices based on your intended meaning and style of writing.

Why Deleting All Adverbs is Bad Writing Advice
Have you heard the common writing advice to delete all -ly adverbs? That’s bad writing advice. Adverbs have a place in writing and should be used purposefully, not banned.

The oldest audio TTRPG Actual Plays predate large corporate ad-based file hosting. The oldest I know of had to shut down their original site & slowly port to Patreon hosting because bot activity made maintenance costs unsustainable.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Not having a consistent group of gamers to connect with is one of my biggest disappointments in life - and part of why I gave up on gaming for a while. The other side to that is... my social anxiety won't let me meet new gamers anymore. So, checkmate myself. Yay. #gaming #mentalhealth

I feel so bad for all of the emerging artists living right now who don't have decades of work to fall back on to prove that they aren't AI. Like, I understand why "I was doing this well before 2022" is such a common response, but, God, we cannot just close the door on new artists forever.

Joyce Carol Oates
This is why Al-generated romance novels make perfect sense. Formulaic fiction doesn't need to be written by hand, so to speak; what difference does it make if a machine "writes" it? There are machine-made clothes & there are custom-made clothes. They appeal to different consumers.

These ads go in the same category as brazen, easily disproven lies after ICE killings. It’s not about persuasion. It’s a display of power. They could have passed them off as PAC-funded. They added “paid for by the U.S. government” because they want us to know they can break the law with impunity.
