While Trump's assertion that "a whole civilization will die tonight" represents a discrete threat of genocide against Iran, the fact that it comes from a U.S. president, while Congress does nothing, actually represents a broader civilizational collapse — whether he follows through or not.

states would be well within their rights at this point to legislate standards for how law enforcement officers identify themselves and impose criminal penalties on violators. if the feds think that dressing up like Proud Boys is essential to their mission, let them litigate.

And everyone, when evaluating James Carville's winning advice, please consider what Gavin Newsom's anti-trans swing has done for his numbers:
New data on the reaction to Gavin Newsom’s new podcast:

- Favorability amongst Liberals has declined from 46% to 30%.

- While some Republicans agreed with his stances, they overwhelmingly viewed him as insincere, calling him “fake” and “pandering”

- His net favorability dropped from +4 to -6, a 10-point swing in the wrong direction.

- Only 13% of voters had an improved perception of him, and only 1 in 5 said the podcast made them want to tune in for more.

The fight going on in the Democratic Party right now is not between hard left, left and moderate. It’s between those who want to fight and those who want to cave. And Team Fight stretches across all ideological aspects of the Party. Misread this at your own peril.

Chuck Schumer has demonstrated that he does not understand how to lead an opposition party. This vote is an affront to the millions of people across the country who are fighting like hell to protect democracy.

For decades the left focused myopically on federal elections while the right laid the groundwork for controlling the government by taking control of state legislatures and courts. The ground game is in the states. Run for school board! Run for town council! Run! That is how we take back power.

HAPPY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY to Susan Collins saying Trump learned a “pretty big lesson” from his first impeachment. thehill.com/homenews/sen...
Collins: Trump has learned ‘a pretty big lesson’ from impeachment

BY JOHN BOWDEN 02/04/20 05:35 PM ET

Maine Sen. Susan Collins (R) on Tuesday defended her newly announced decision to vote to acquit President Trump in his Senate impeachment trial, saying he has learned “a pretty big lesson” over his dealings with Ukraine.Trump’s acquittal on Wednesday looks all but certain, with Collins the latest possible swing vote to say she would come down against the two House-passed articles of impeachment.

“I believe that the president has learned from this case,” she told Norah O’Donnell of CBS News. “The president has been impeached. That’s a pretty big lesson.”

“He was impeached. And there has been criticism by both Republican and Democratic senators of his call,” she continued, before predicting: “I believe that he will be much more cautious in the future.”

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

The only two groups that I've seen who deeply understand the spiritual peril we are in: Black women and Jewish women. I'm talking about feeling it in the cells, our bones. Like, making emergency exit plans. I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, just saying the truth.

Decades of confirmation hearings where women testify to abuse and sexual violence, only for the men in question to rise to higher positions of power, is a perfect encapsulation of why more victims don’t come forward.

When Texas said last week that its Maternal Mortality Review Committee wouldn’t examine any pregnancy-related deaths from 2022 and 2023, the state essentially admitted that women’s bodies are piling up faster than it cares to investigate them. Me in MSNBC:

Pro-democracy reforms would not only grant the District of Columbia representation in Congress, it would protect the LGBTQ+ community in DC from the whims of bigoted out-of-towners like Mace.

Trump continues to outdo himself by picking the most unqualified & dangerous cabinet members in modern history. Amid a public health crisis where 1 in 3 women face near-total loss of abortion access — he placed RFK Jr., an anti-science conspiracy theorist, in charge of safeguarding our health care.
