It is, tbf, yet another nation formed by compounding and conflicting atrocities which makes discerning what is both just and fair a judgment tricky even for Solomon in his hay day.

Yes. There's been a conflating of "Israelis should be safe and assured of statehood with all its benefits and securities (giving a natural place of asylum for Jews and Jewish identity across the world)" with "the right of Israel to exist *as an exclusively Jewish state*" in an unhelpful way.

That's interesting. I had heard that compulsory voting in Australia worked well, but it sounds like you think the cultural difference means it wouldn't translate?

Person one: Taught my kids how socialism works. Let them trick or treat while I stayed home. Then took all their candy. Socialism 101.

Person two : The socialism part is where the community came together and fed your kids for free. The capitalism part is where you made them do all the work and stole from them.

Yes, indeed, but generally speaking, we're destructive because we're looking at the world around us as something to be *taken*, rather than lived with.

I was talking to one of the local Parks and Gardens team yesterday who was saying just that: we spend so much time thinking we need to be the Saviour of Nature, when, generally speaking, Nature would do just fine if we stopped being massively exploitative.

6. Until the 1840s, the Diocese of Canterbury jutted out 30 miles into the Diocese of Chichester because, a thousand years before, a King of Kent had given an Archbishop a house.
Map of Diocesan boundaries in 1835 showing a 30-mile-long corridor jutting out of Kent (Canterbury diocese) into Sussex (Chichester Diocese). It looks very odd.
