In @thestar.com I write about agitslop seeping into Toronto’s election & politics. AstroTurf campaigns to AI-driven apps, we need a Blade Runner to help us understand what’s real & what’s fake, but it may inspire a renaissance of showing up in public space for protest or just conversation.

Shawn Micallef: AI slop is turning Toronto politics into a sci-fi dystopia, but it’s not too late to change course
The line between real and fake is blurring and it should be a cautionary tale for voters and candidates

AI ‘journalists’ start to appear in Canada globalnews.ca/news/1208652...
OTTAWA – Quebec correspondent “Geneviève Tremblay” — who has been reporting on multiple news stories a day lately — seemed to be experiencing a glitch.

She wasn’t the only one. All of We News’ reporters and editors seemed to be malfunctioning on Friday, sending out error messages whenever The Canadian Press tried to ask them questions via chat.

That can happen when your “journalists” are — like the virtual staffers at We News — just fake personas generated by artificial intelligence.

Okay, just looked at the "everpen" pencil. Apparently if never goes dull and lasts forever. $37. Pricey. It lasts forever, but they sell refills. $25. And then there's coloured refills. $29. Call it $100 when all is said and done. And I'd need extras because I lose things. Not for me.

Instagram flagged her ads for an event for LGBTQ women. So this Toronto organizer got creative archive.ph/pad79
As naturopathic doctor Jessica Nazareth started promoting her upcoming wellness summit on Instagram, she noticed her posts stopped getting their typical reach.

Then Meta flagged six posts promoting the event, which is focused on inclusive, holistic and community-driven health education for LGBTQ women and non-binary people. Next, her ability to create advertisements on Instagram was removed.

Nazareth has had issues with Meta for years. She specializes in reproductive and sexual wellness, and said she has shifted the way she functions online to ensure her account isn’t removed. These days, she uses code words and deliberate misspellings on Instagram to avoid being flagged.

Canada is not actually 'battling for survival' in the context of secession, because in both Alberta and Quebec secession has relatively small amounts of public support. What we're battling is dipshit far-right populist politicians enabling/pushing for this destructive bullshit.

These traitorous goofs offered up our FRESH WATER????? Full exposé on these idiot Alberta separatists here: archive.is/rhGUj
Excerpt from the Globe article reads: “A Globe and Mail investigation has found that Republican political operatives were on the ground in Alberta this year to assist the separatist campaign in its bid to leave Canada, while harbouring their own aspirations for the province to secede.
The Globe also found that when Alberta separatist leaders went to Washington to meet with the U.S. State Department, they offered up key assets from the province's resource portfolio, including access to fresh water and royalties on crude oil, in exchange for help transitioning to independence.
Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta's pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.”

Okay, so I've harvested the squash and the pumpkins and pulled the last of the tomatoes off the vine. I need to clean up the beds and, unfortunately, run a tiller through some of them. I hate tilling up soil, but sometimes it needs it. I think it'll wait until Monday though.

It's always so sad to me when I see Hollywood actors from a movie reunite a decade plus later and the men have aged totally normally and the women look exactly the same, because god FORBID they're allowed to get old. I'm so glad I've never been successful enough to have to deal with that nonsense.

Greedy corporate fbckers. Not people in boats who arrive with nothing but hope & dreams.

The oil industry is unwilling to pay for this pipeline because even they know the world is moving away from fossil fuels. This project leaves Canadians bearing all the risks of a bad investment without any of the rewards.
