Beware the
alibi of photocopies ! Photocopies are indis-
pensable instruments. They allow you to keep with you a text you have already read in the library, and to take home a text you have not read yet. But a set of photocopies can become an alibi. A student makes hundreds of pages of photocopies and takes them home, and the manual labor he exercises in doing so gives him the impression that he possesses the work. Owning the photocopies exempts the student from actually reading them. This sort of vertigo of accumulation, a neocapitalism of information, happens to many. Defend yourself from this trap: as soon as you have the photocopy, read it and annotate it immediately. If you are not in a great hurry, do not photocopy something new before you own (that is, before you have read and annotated) the previous set of photocopies. There are many things that I do not know because I photocopied a text and then relaxed as if I had read it.

We're refilling a countertop cistern from a water store @ $0.35USD a gallon. It's super expensive, but it's also inconvenient. A friend remodeled his kitchen himself & installed a water-pressure-powered unit for ~$250, plumbed to a coffee maker, fridge, & tap next to a sink. He's super happy.

My maternal grandfather was one of those departed sons/husbands/fathers who never returned. He was killed within a week of the end of WW2 in Europe, three weeks before my mom was born. He's buried in Padua, Italy.

We were just bemoaning the state of fridges in 'Murica. Many are non-magnetic b/c they look like cabinetry or they're stainless steel or they're wifi-enabled with giant displays to show you ads (grrrr). I built a magnet board to show our entire life history of magnets.
