Like all of magic (on which the whole vampire invitation thing depends) intention is a key ingredient. You cannot accidentally invite a vampire into your home. Even if a vampire cop had a warrant, they can enter to perform police duties, but not feed as a vampire because you didn't invite them in.

The Problem with Early Warnings

People don't like to leave a party unless the house is actually on fire. Even then, if the flames are far enough away to be pretty, they'll finish their drink, take one more pass at the hors d'oeuvres.
How things happen has always been
unclear. Hurricanes begin
in a place where no one lives.
Agents of the government start
to wear masks. Fascism is
a word my neighbors won't use
yet. They are following
the law, they say, and the sirens
are coming for someone else.

Also just to be very clear: the AfD have normalised and mainstreamed support for the far-right, but as @okwonga.bsky.social points out, they are the face of a broader movement. At the AfD rally last Sunday, there were many families who brought their kids, standing alongside people with Nazi tattoos.

Sharing this after returning from Magdeburg in east Germany, and going to report at an AfD rally in the nearby countryside. People outside of Germany do not understand how urgent this situation is right now. The AfD have a nationwide polling lead + are tipped to win control of two states next month.

This debacle could bring down The Guardian.
Corrections and clarifications

A production error meant Albert Camus's The Outsider was omitted from our top 100 novels list (In our good books, 16 May, Saturday magazine, p10); its intended placing was 71. Also, My Antonia should have been 78, not 100; what we described as the opening line of The Turn of the Screw was from its first chapter, not its prologue; and the protagonists of Catch-22 are members of a bomb squadron, not fighter pilots. 29ERO DOW

‘It’s no longer exceptional’: Karachi struggles under brutal new reality of extreme heat
Experts say the unseasonably hot weather across south Asia shows the impact of the climate crisis An intense and prolonged heatwave has been causing misery for millions across Pakistan and India. In southern Pakistan throughout April and May, temperatures have risen far above seasonal norms. In Sindh, daytime temperatures have frequently crossed 44C to 46C, forcing residents indoors during peak afternoon hours and severely affecting outdoor labourers, transport workers and farming communities.
