the only people making the world confusing for teenage boys are adult men who are telling them that the world they inhabit is broken and has turned against them because people’s values have evolved in the ~30 years that they’ve ceased to be teenagers and they no longer feel in control

if you don’t teach little boys that they are part of a family or community, if you teach them weird Christofascist “head of the household” shit, while the girls are taught they have to be in charge of managing all the boys’ emotions, the toxicity of the internet is just the cherry atop a shit sundae

There’s this show on Rev called El Camino I think you both would like. It’s a Canadian show, several years old already, but I’m sure you can find it. The host subscribes to this philosophy.

Yeah, it’s fabulous. I woke up thinking about the characters in the middle of the night, and was tempted to finish it but saved it for the morning. You know a book is good when you want to know what happens to the characters after it’s done. I’d love a sequel eventually.

You asked, I listened As an act of civic journalism, I contacted the Privy Council Office and the Speaker of the House of Commons to clarify if Pierre Poilievre can still serve as Leader of the Opposition and if he can continue living in his public mansion The official answers: No and no

All kidding aside, the biggest reason to keep Poilievre out of Parliament is to change the tone. We can't operate as a civil nation when one party leader exists only to attack the other. Civil debates and factual discussions, not personal attacks and three-word slogans, please.

3. No “wedding cake” massing rules. Don’t cap the upper floor at 50% or 60% of the lower floor. You’re killing green space, functional housing and cost/efficiency in one fell swoop in the name of cutesy aesthetics. Just allow functional small housing. You’re a government not an HOA.

I think most people can't comprehend that equalization comes from the federal government, which means there isn't some magical ledger where money is siphoned from one province and handed to another province like they're separate bank accounts. We're taxed as Canadians, not provincial residents.

Today’s #dogventure was a lovely jaunt around Jubilee and Oak Bay

Cream coloured dog eating grass in front of a yard with ducks who are watching from just behind the fence

Cream coloured dog sniffing along a wood chip path next to bluebells

Cream coloured dog happily running along a neighbourhood path

A weird memorial to two deceased dogs in someone’s driveway, complete with candles and a weatherproof notebook where one is encouraged to leave one’s thoughts. Also a picture introducing the new puppy.

And they were making more of the impaired drivers causing crashes, but personally I think it’s way worse to be sober and cause such destruction while reversing.

Rayna Rambling @raynarambling.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

I keep thinking about the person whose car went over the embankment on to the beach, imagine getting that phone call. “My car is where? Because of what?!”

What are you doing that you LOSE CONTROL WHILE REVERSING ??

At 4:45 p.m., in Colwood, a driver was reversing on Ocean Boulevard when they lost control, hitting a parked car which was then pushed over the embankment onto the beach.
