When autistic characters are depicted as both unfeeling and aroace. Nothing wrong with an autistic character being aro and/or ace, but when it's the default and it's associated with lack of empathy, it's damaging to both autistic and aroace communities, because neither lack empathy. #SpoonieAuthChat

I usually do it one scene at a time so it's not too tiring, but I like reading aloud to begin with, so that helps too. When I was a kid, my mum and I used to take turns reading a book aloud to each other, and it was really fun. But if your throat gets dry, it's definitely not pleasant.

Absolutely recommend! I got an ARC and loved it. The characters' journeys to find themselves and each other were so beautiful and emotional! I really enjoyed the creepy cryptids and how the supernatural elements worked. Now that I've read it, I have a new appreciation of the chickens on the cover =)

#StetChat A6 😭 Not a ChatGPT + paint combo! That sounds awful! I don't work with authors who use gen AI, so hopefully my clients wouldn't. If they did, I'd remind them that books are indeed judged by their covers, and it's their best marketing tool. Honesty is kindness in this case.

And if they still want to continue, I probably wouldn't take the project on. Beyond the uselessness of it all, it might tempt me into scope creep to try to salvage the manuscript. If it's not ready, but not terribly not ready, I might consider taking it and add a clause to keep my name out of it.

#StetChat A5 I don't do copyedits yet, but at whichever stage, if the book isn't ready for it, I'd inform the client. I'd gently tell them about the impact on the reader, their reputation, and sales if needed. I'd try to point out a few concerns and tell them which stage of editing would be best.
