They Kept Outsiders Away for 500 Years. Their World Is About to Change. (Gift Article)
My father dedicated his life to studying the Guna people of Panama, and they may soon allow unprecedented development through their land. I went on a trek through the jungle to find out why.

Reimagining the Cone of Possible Futures as: 1. Not a cone (too platonic) 2. With blurry edges (for uncertainty) 3. Non-contiguous (for happenstance and poorly understood causation) Formulated for my students and shared publicly for the first time earlier this year at PUCE Ecuador. Frijol Future.

My niece and nephew insisted The Quiet Year be the first game we played when I arrived, declaring it the GOAT. And I’ve just read them the prompt for The Deep Forest and their minds are blown.

Some people really like them for classrooms & for sleeping areas because they are so silent. (I have two & can’t hear them at all.) You can also personalize yours with whatever color gaffer tape you want—mine are teal and neon green 🌬️ www.reddit.com/r/crboxes/co...

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

The opportunity to not only examine but print with some original surviving type can be invaluable for a better understanding of this vanishing cultural tradition, and it was incredibly cool to witness.

For context, these forms of lead type were often not preserved, especially in places where Yiddish was printed less and less. There are still some letterpress printers working with Hebrew character letterpress (which Yiddish is printed in) but very few places still make lead type at all.

American higher education is and feels so precarious so much of the time and still there are colleagues and friends who will nerd out about early 20th c lead Yiddish/Hebrew type with little notice and make my and a grad student researchers day.

Fuck the reflecting pool. This has not gotten nearly enough coverage or generated the proper outrage. People thrown in prison for 30-50 years for the "crime" ofmaking zines and belonging to a book club!! This is straight-up totalitarian atrocity. Political prisoners thrown in a gulag to rot.

We played a game I created (and letterpress printed) for the Black Cube Nomadic Art Museum’s event “Talk With Your Mouth Full” today.
On the left third of image are many wooden tile from Scrabble in a plastic bag. Balance of image is a printed list of instructions for a multi-player word game. The rules read: “given one-thousand scrabble tiles and up to fifty humans gathered at the Black Cube headquarters… take ten tiles. talk to people. compare tiles and collaboratively compose words for peace, democracy, and inclusion. use each tile only once. trading or swapping a maximum of two tiles per person is okay. single words, phrases, and short sentences are welcomed. share your co-authored words with us please. ‘Talk With Your Mouth Full 2026’”Two hands belonging to one person arranging tiles on top of two copies of the game rules from previous image. The Spanish word “quiero” is spelled out in tiles just above and right of center. The words “use ripples” are spelled in lower half. The words “we all feel fine” are spelled out in scrabble tiles. They are arranged so that the “F” and “L” serve more than one word each. The bi-lingual text “try everyone ‘a bailar cumbia todos’ stress free” is spelled out in tiles.

It’s the one year anniversary of Binding Media!!!
A book with a white cover. Most of it its taken by a cursor arrow constructed with, on one side, colorful hand stitches in Japanese stab binding style, and on the other side with pixelated lines in vapor wave palette. It reads: Binding Media. Hybrid Print-Digital Literatures from across the Americas.
