Anyway, as much as we may mock, this is the wholly forseeable end-point of a system where universities are (a) deliberately starved of resources; (b) deliberately bereft of public mission and vocation; (c) deliberately placed in the hands of an intellecually/morally bankrupt management class.

The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

This is a powerful way to extend the logic of your child being your property that is so popular in this country (why do you think they're so freaked out about trans kids). This makes kids legally about the same level as dogs. Very British but not exactly ideal for a society humans have to live in.

So scanning this, it looks like a proposal to roll out what they did in York, and I'm sure elsewhere, to everywhere. So no treatment unless you're suicidal or extremely complex needs, just signposting to existing inadequate and generic local MH services.

They genuinely can't see capitalism as an ideological position & that they're ideologues. For them capitalism is a given feature of the world, a natural facet like gravity & only other people with different 'unnatural' political preferences are ideologues, shirking the order of the universe

Imagine, just imagine, all the capital, all the labour, all the raw material, all the land, that was going into this was at the disposal of the community and was being used to improve our infrastructure, our homes, our communities, imagine using it reduce rather than produce carbon emissions

My cousin got me a ticket to the Wigan Roller Rink send-off tonight & I'm gonna cry seeing it go. It's been a couple of years now since I was able to get over there thanks to my back being so messed up and I wish now I'd just pushed through the pain. Feel so bad for the locals.

I did work experience aged 15 in a solicitors office I picked out of the phone book. They had no idea what to do with me and dumped me in the post room to fuck up their photocopying and do mail runs for 2 weeks. Boring and depressing but they got minimal actual labour out of me.

You cannot cordially debate someone whose agenda is to remove the rights of various marginalised communities and then pretend you actually care about said communities The humanity of some should never be debatable. That should be a red line and the fact it needs to be said tells us a lot... 4/

The way reactionaries have been welcomed in mainstream circles including on the left even as they hardly hid their agenda should give us pause for thought Beyond the mainstreaming of reaction, it has also led to the delegitimisation of anti-racist and anti-fascist politics seen as "polarising" 3/

The Kathleen Stocks of the world's have truly been giving the game away recycling their miserable anti-trans screeds, with the barest effort to switch the focus to neurodivergence, ethnicity, class etc. "These people's feeble nature is self-evident, particularly when they try to asset their rights."

The ADHD conspiracy and the gender critical movement and the Prof Arday story and the crackdown on disability support are all the same story. There is a default ideal human: a cishet non-disabled white male. The further you deviate from that ideal, the more suspect you become.

The first and second paragraphs here are intensely connected. Like the previous deckchair arrangement, the Burnham ministry is devoted to full-throated disaster capitalism. They will ignore climate change as long as possible, and then they'll wield total state brutality as the country burns.

Here are two questions: why, in the public discourse, are politicians deserving of safety while the people they threaten with state violence are not? Why is the focus redirected away from politicians threatening state violence against millions of of us and towards their safety?

it is more desirable to them that rod liddle beat his pregnant partner than if he had not. they like him more for it, because it reinforces their hierarchies more. men over women, adults over children, etc. it is comforting for them to see their hierarchy play out true

Haven't followed his career in a long while but wasn't there a whole bit in his book about the importance of presenting evidence transparently, not cherry picking your data to support a particular view or outcome? Sounds like a fine principle to apply to the legacy of a dead public figure tbh

Imagine living your life as Rod Liddle did, in such a way that leads to such intense celebration when you die. Contorting yourself weekly to conjure up more bile for pay. I'm sure we'll get the usual about not speaking ill of the dead but it sure looks like he went to quite the lengths to invite it.
