Every time I go to a conference there's a new urban researcher declaring their work with Abahlali baseMjondolo. The poor guys must have more people researching them than members at this point.

At RGS this week, listening in to discussions of injustices, inequalities and the liveable city, inside buildings literally called "royal" and "Imperial", in one of London's many luxury-car-dealership neighbourhoods... I can't be the only one thinking... Is it time for a new Terror?

Microsoft's planning to build 3 massive AI data centres in Leeds. It’ll drain thousands of litres of water from the River Aire and become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop the council's final sign-off, but we need more voices. Add your name: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/pr...

Stop the Microsoft AI megasite in Leeds!
Microsoft wants to build three huge AI data centres at Skelton Grange. It would drain the River Aire and become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop it - add your name to the petition.

"This is Martin Luther nailing the 95 theses, except instead of the door to Wittenburg church it’s the wall of a micropub. And instead of objecting to the Catholic Church’s sale of indulgences, it’s protesting against someone drawing a two-metre tall bottle of Henderson’s Relish" ✍️ @seanmorl.com

A small piece that I spent maybe too much time on, a review of "An Ethnography of the Goodman Building" by Niccolo Caldararo, an account of a unique activist community in 70s San Francisco, is now published in International Journal of Housing Policy. A book I found both fascinating and frustrating!

Genuinely, if you live in the UK you should so the consultation just to find out some of the unbelievable details of what's being proposed. Even with their spin and obfuscation it's shocking

Can someone with a Jacobin subscription copy and paste this so I can tell if it's good or not? Or more specifically so I can tell if it's another for my growing collection of 'should have written this, but didn't' articles about the GLC...

I wrote ‘Where is the Left?’ for the New Internationalist and have been really heartened by how much it’s resonated with people organising across a wide range of groups and in such a vast array of different places You can read the article here newint.org/protest/2025...

As a union, we have been fighting employers’ attempts at making 100% pay deductions for ASOS legal since 2019. As a branch, we’ve been at the forefront of that fight since 2022. Our own union going against our policies, workers’ interest, and legal cases hurts. Letter: qmucu.org/2025/09/12/l...
QMUCU branch committee statement. We learnt with dismay about UCU Senior Managements’ threats of 100% pay deductions for Actions Short of Strike against Unite UCU members. We oppose these threats in the strongest of terms. They breach union policy voted on in congress. They replicate the worst employers' practice. They contravene our legal work challenging ASOS deductions. We express our solidarity with Unite UCU and call on UCU senior management to revoke these threats, protect all workers from disproportionate deductions, and negotiate with Unite UCU without preconditions.

UCU has been fighting employers' efforts to make 100% pay deductions for Action Short of Strike legal through practice since 2019. We're not stopping now that our own UCU Senior Management is replicating the same worst practice. Much solidarity to @uniteucu.bsky.social.
