Shigeru Miyamoto has claimed that Toad is his least favorite character in Mario Kart. Despite this, in all footage of him playing Mario Kart 8, he picked Toad every time. Whether he was joking or specifically picking a character he hates to challenge himself is unknown.
I have an important question. Nintendo has also just released Mariokart 7 for the 3DS. In every iteration of Mariokart, I've always preferred to play as Toad. Who's your favorite character?
That's the most challenging question! I'm sorry that I cannot come up with an interesting answer. Somehow, it's habit to me, but I play with Mario. He's a very balanced character.
Who's your least favorite character?
Toad. [Laughs]
My favorite character is your least favorite character?
I understand that he has some popularity. Somehow.
In a 2012 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shigeru Miyamoto has claimed Toad is his least favorite Mario Kart character.
In December 2014, Shigeru Miyamoto and Bill Trinen played Mario Kart 8 against YouTuber Rosanna Pansino. Miyamoto picked Toad.
Also in December 2014, Shigeru Miyamoto and Bill Trinen played Mario Kart 8 against YouTuber iJustine. Miyamoto picked Toad again.
Finally, in January 2015, the two played Mario Kart 8 against YouTube group Smosh Games. Miyamoto picked Toad again.
Whether Miyamoto simply had an enormous change of heart about Toad in the intervening 2 years, or whether he was picking his least favorite to challenge or punish himself, is unknown.

Every time I see someone declaring that games are just Bad Now and have been since like 2010... I really think they might be in a parallel dimension or something. Either that, or it's just the depression talking. It's not uncommon for a dozen great games to launch in ONE DAY right now.

The fact in this headline it is being used to distinguish 'non-gameplay' "romance features" from 'gameplay' shooting and driving is pretty transparent in the gendered connotations, I think!

I don't think this is a problem at all. we still get games inspired by non-games all the time, and also, I think there's beauty in distilling the medium. You don't get a movement like Dada based on experiences and nature alone, some art can only come from reflecting, distilling, rejecting prior art

Seemingly hot take, but I would take the flip for a billion because a 50:50 chance of putting -hundreds of millions of dollars- into my community, charities, etc. is worth it compared to a million which would probably just give me personal comfort. The billion is only selfish if you keep it!

So I disagree...I've actually worked remote for the last 6 years and on and off before that with several companies. Remote teams can still build trust, have great communication and make great games together. It takes a different approach than being in the same office but it can be done and done well

The Amazing World of Tomorrow
A comic strip titled The Amazing World of Tomorrow.
A food delivery robot cooler drives down a sidewalk.
It crashes into a rental scooter.
It backs up.
It crashes into the rental scooter again. The scooter wobbles.
The scooter falls to the ground as the food delivery robot backs up again.
A driverless taxi crashes into both the scooter and the food delivery robot sending them flying.

I wrote this comic 2 years ago. I was terrified when I wrote it but had hope it wouldn't come to pass and would be a reminder of how bad things got before we pulled back. It not only has, it has gotten even worse. This is absolutely terrifying and will destroy lives if passed.

Quick plein air kit test on the deck to make sure I've got everything I need before venturing out with it!
A plein air setup - a tripod with a light U-Go pochade box with Cobra water-mixable oil paint on the palette, a couple brushes and small palette knife, a metal container for water, a small painting on the box. the scene takes place on a wooden deck facing two blueberry plants with bird nets over them and steps to a bushy garden.

Small, free act you can do to bring some good in this world: add positive reviews to ALL you Steam games, especially the small indies. You don't need to write anything smart, just "game good" is enough. Every positive steam review tips the algorithm and helps your fav artists get more sales

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste

Do smaller indies/devs still prefer to work in a fixed framerate? It used to be prevalent in my circles. I felt like not many were working with delta timing, which I guess makes more sense if you're actually working at a pixel resolution for the codebase as well

On Saints Row we had a debug npc named Skinballs (lol) that was literally just four spheres wrapped in different shades of skin texture so we could test lighting for different skin tones during development. But teams need to plan for that kind of testing with intentionality, and not enough do.
