Josh Tolentino of the Baltimore Sun wrote an absolutely amazing article that made me feel so validated as a fan that it brought me to tears. (Some of these are out of order but you’ll get the idea). Elias is cooked.

Elias is the longest-tenured baseball operations leader in the majors without a playoff victory. After the deadline passed Monday, he was asked a fair question:
Why should fans trust him to keep leading the Orioles after two consecutive disappointing seasons and selloffs?
"Yeah, thanks," Elias replied.
His answer began with a defensive edge and quickly turned backward. Rather than directly confront the growing doubt surrounding his leadership, Elias spent several minutes revisiting the broken organization he inherited in 2018 and recounting his front office's accomplishments. A couple of achievements were conspicuously absent from his response: a postseason series victory, or even a single playoff win.

It was a day off for the Orioles, but the quiet family scene illustrated how little control the manager wielded over the seismic decisions reshaping his roster.
While Albernaz took in Ravens practice with his children, Elias was dismantling the club he'd been hired to manage.

Even an impressive return cannot erase the anger and disbelief it stirred across the fanbase Monday night or
what the trade represents.
It is an indictment of the vision Elias sold Orioles fans everywhere.
While Rutschman's production declined after his first two full seasons and repeated injuries became a legitimate concern, he remained the face of the franchise. His struggles also reflected a broader problem, with several members of the young core failing to meet expectations or experiencing frustrating stalls in their development.
The Orioles appeared to possess one of MLB's strongest foundations after winning 101 games in 2023, but they were swept out of the postseason. They won 91 games the following year and were swept again. They missed the postseason entirely last season, and this year's maddeningly inconsistent group has wasted too many opportunities in a crowded, forgiving American League wild-card race.
Rutschman played a leading role on both Elias-built teams that reached October. He leaves Baltimore having helped restore playoff baseball to Camden Yards but never celebrating a postseason victory.
I hate to make this all about the playoffs as the sport's postseason can be cruel and unpredictable, especially over a short series. But after eight seasons of the Elias era, the absence of any October success is impossible to ignore.

The Orioles quickly posted a farewell tribute to Rutschman on social media. The goodbye video played like the closing credits for an era that never reached the ending Elias promised fans.
"We love him," Elias said Friday. "You absolutely feel it when he's gone from the team. Adley is one of the best things we have going for us."
Three days later, Elias chose a future without Rutschman.
That franchise-altering decision will define Elias' tenure, whether or not it costs him his own future atop the Orioles.
