I wish journalists could buy layoff insurance. So many of us move to other cities and other countries for jobs, but we can be laid off at any time, while still on the hook for leases, car payments, student loans, and other expenses. I couldn't apply for unemployment because I was on a work visa.

Maybe they quietly work on themselves and become a better person and redeem themselves through words and action. Maybe we believe and forgive them. Maybe they continue working and maybe we consume their product. But even that's extra. No one is owed a Met Gala on the other side.

The writer Andrew Solomon, who is a member of the Met board, plans to host a gathering at his home, where he will speak with Galliano before a group of trustees and donors. Solomon, a supporter of the scheduled exhibition, said that “confronting cancel culture is a healthier way to go forward than bowing to it.”

These crosstabs are BRUTAL. For *strongly* disapprove: - 47% of men - 45% of white voters - 51% of Hispanic voters - 56% of ages 18-29, 49% of 30-44, 47% of 45-65, 51% of 65+ - 45% of no college degree - 53% of independents That's not even "somewhat" -- that's hardcore dislike.
