the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

god if I ever got given the reigns of trek I would write a series following a troupe of Klingon bards, a concept that doesn't really *formally* exist but we've seen the edges of -- they love opera, they love tales of great deeds, there's gotta be a class of dudes who make it a living off it

Look at this sweet old man with his little pink nose. 17 years young and still loves to cuddle and pose for the camera.
A closeup shot of a gray and white kitty with dark yellow eyes and a light pink nose. His eyes are half open with a relaxed gaze, his head resting on its side with his hind paw curled up to meet it. The fur is clumped in places, an indication of age and limited flexibility, but he still appears healthy and soft.

🧪 Link to paper: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
Screenshot of the linked paper abstract that reads:
Using 30 months of panel data on 26,811 Chinese students in grades 7-12, we study how generative AI affects homework productivity and learning. The data combine monthly closed-book exams, high-school and college entrance exams, and homework scores and completion time across nine subjects. We exploit staggered AI adoption in a difference-in-differences design. AI adoption raises homework scores by 18% and reduces completion time by 30%, but lowers monthly exam scores by 20% within six months. High-stakes entrance-exam scores fall by 18 and 24%, with the full penalty emerging only after about two years. The losses are largest in social science subjects, followed by STEM and languages, and are especially large for junior students, high-achieving students, and boys. The learning loses are concentrated among roughly 80% of AI users whose behavior is consistent with homework outsourcing, as indicated by exceptionally short homework completion time coupled with high homework scores. AI users who maintain similar homework completion time as non-AI users experience small learning loss.

With every episode, he includes ample show notes and references, quizzes, and even writes and records his own music--both as background soundtrack to the episode as well as a fully-produced silly song related to the episode at the end!

I love baikal seals. what if there was a real animal that looked like an alien dog that's constantly on the verge of tears
Niko the seal, dark and fat, opening his mouth to say something, presumably "ough". his eyes appear to be filled with tears a baikal seal holding onto a toy love heart. its eyes are HUGE, uncannily huge, and reflecting distant lightsa baby baikal seal. imagine a grey alien except filled his mischief, like that movie Paul, but fluffy. a baikal seal perks up, presumably having seen a fish or perhaps a friend. its eyes are, say it louder for everybody in the back, uncannily fucking huge and shiny, like boba the size of grapefruit

The image is of a four panel comic. The title above the comic reads, "The organs are a team."
The first panel shows a drawing of a stomach. The stomach says, "I digest food so it can become energy."
The second panel shows a drawing of a heart. The heart says, "I use energy to pump blood."
The third panel shows a drawing of a liver. The liver says, "I take that blood and filter it."
The fourth panel shows a drawing of a brain. The brain says, "I will actively sabotage all of you."

I saw The Odyssey this weekend (it was incredible; I've never felt so emotionally connected to the story) and came away with many thoughts. One of them: Antinous is my favorite Robert Pattinson role--I love it even more than his character in The Lighthouse. So delightfully weaselly. 10/10, no notes
