Toadflax arrived in our meadow by itself, always super happy to find a new native species has appeared. It's like a teeny two fingers up to all those destroying nature elsewhere. It is covered in bees and shield bugs. #WildflowerHour

Oh man this is making me sad, yet another mole has died due to the drought & rock hard ground. This one made it to one of the sumps in the groundwater fed wildlife pond, but there's been no water there for a month now. Small lives being lost everywhere ☹️

The saplings we got from the Woodland Trust were probably the tiniest & most feeble of all the suppliers we tried and we lost hundreds in the drought of 2022. Some of the survivors are doing OK with no watering though, maybe drought hardened by that baptism of fire!

A lot of people keen to blame deliberate arson for wildfires forget just how stupid a lot of people are. As if firefighters needed any other work a local moron decided to have a bonfire last night which set his grass alight spreading out of control to his garden fast 🙄 #wildfire

And that's it for the big groundwater pond for this summer. All gone, just the reedmace & loosestrife left. Luckily for wildlife the stream is still running, but wondering if it's natural or whether the environment agency are ensuring that as they did for 90 days in 2022 before they had to give up.

Absolutely sweltering here even at 8pm FFS! We had to go water some of our newest trees (not pictured, these ones should be ok 🤞), otherwise they'll have no chance getting through this heatwave. It was extremely hot work.

Being mystified all over again that it's nigh on impossible to get inward opening windows in the UK or cool wooden shutters to add to the outside that work with them. It makes all the difference abroad on hot days! (And inward opening windows are way easier/safer to clean!) #heatwave

Top tip for MAMILS, if you whizz past someone else cycling on the flat (and in this case carrying their shopping) & don't say hello, but then yell 'THATS CHEATING' as they whizz past you on the uphill on their e-bike you come across as a knob. It's not cheating, it's ENABLING.
