Well it might all be in pieces, no plumbing, wiring or windows and looking terrifyingly smashed up below the roofline but the solar panels are on & looking good with the new bargeboards, lead flashing & repointed chimney. Hanging on to the positives 😆 #OneDayThisWillBeLiveable

Loads of small coppers, ground nesting bees, crane flies etc in the meadow today, good to see. #Suffolk

The ground under one of our oak trees is full of enormous blue staining boletes, they are properly heavy!

Toadflax arrived in our meadow by itself, always super happy to find a new native species has appeared. It's like a teeny two fingers up to all those destroying nature elsewhere. It is covered in bees and shield bugs. #WildflowerHour
Flower head, bright deeper yellow and paler yellow petals with a brown shield bugs crawling across, it has dashing stripey antenna.

Wasp spider in the meadow! V cool and very fast and aggressive! I love how they weave a big near invisible web but deliberately create a more solid white zig zag up the middle of it.

Oh man this is making me sad, yet another mole has died due to the drought & rock hard ground. This one made it to one of the sumps in the groundwater fed wildlife pond, but there's been no water there for a month now. Small lives being lost everywhere ☹️

What a spiteful load of nonsense. The shooting fraternity really have their claws in to folk who are managing land for nature & biodiversity rather than profit & killing. Reminder that the biggest ever wildfire in Scotland was on a highly managed grouse moor in Darva. #rewilding

The saplings we got from the Woodland Trust were probably the tiniest & most feeble of all the suppliers we tried and we lost hundreds in the drought of 2022. Some of the survivors are doing OK with no watering though, maybe drought hardened by that baptism of fire!

Oh no, Dunwich Heath wildlife reserve is on fire, right next to Minsmere bird reserve too. 14 crews out & people evacuated. This is horrendous. Views from Sizewell & Eels Foot #Suffolk #Wildfire

Rubbish pic but fairly sure this is a Six-belted clearwing moth I spotted in our meadow yesterday. Quite rare for #Suffolk apparently. #suffolkwildlife

And that's it for the big groundwater pond for this summer. All gone, just the reedmace & loosestrife left. Luckily for wildlife the stream is still running, but wondering if it's natural or whether the environment agency are ensuring that as they did for 90 days in 2022 before they had to give up.

Meadow species count is going up year on year. (No trees or shrubs included in this count). Although have to admit couldn’t reliably include all the different species of grass because we don’t know them well enough!

Absolutely sweltering here even at 8pm FFS! We had to go water some of our newest trees (not pictured, these ones should be ok 🤞), otherwise they'll have no chance getting through this heatwave. It was extremely hot work.

My partner's city garden. We both stopped mowing a couple of years ago, my rural garden turned into nettles, alkanet & brambles, his turned into this bee paradise 🤷🙄

The meadow is blooming, this is the first cornflower to appear and the beautifully iridescent and an aptly named swollen-thighed beetle is enjoying it, alongside plenty more on the scabious. #Suffolk

It's May. Spring not summer. Took this exactly a week ago, frost-damaged oak saplings. Getting a little fed up of the gaslighting that this heat is normal for May 🙄

The stealth badgers have continued to evade detection despite all the evidence of their presence. Here’s a little selection of some things the trail camera DID catch, the ever present annoying pheasants, a grey squirrel & a Little Owl,+ then a night video of something moving the camera…?

I still have no explanation. Either a) We have INVISIBLE BADGERS or b) We have GENIUS BADGERS that are switching the cameras off so they can have a private poo and then switching them back on again! I also have the two cameras split up now so they can film from different angles.

INVISIBLE BADGER STRIKES AGAIN!! This is utterly perplexing. A huge new fresh badger poo and zero trail cam footage of any badger whatsoever?!?! There are now TWO cameras at this spot 😆 And yes the cameras pick up everything else!

I am being trolled by a badger. I set up a trail cam by its route through the blackthorn and by the hole it has dug under our oak tree, it has dug a poo pit and used it and groomed itself leaving hair IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA and it's the only animal that isn't setting it off!!! Baffled honestly.

When you find the result of lambs tail banding. They are left with just a tiny tail in the UK to swat flies & express themselves. In Sweden it is outlawed on animal welfare grounds whereas in the US they remove the entire tail so the vulva & anus is completely exposed which looks appalling.

Have had to completely remove this lovely ivy as this old shed is collapsing and asbestos removal folk are coming 😬 Worried that birds might be nesting in it so took it v slow but thankfully all clear, just in time. Glad I grew on 6 ivy plants from its seeds last year to replace it now!!
