It's World Homeless Day, and I'll just say: Homelessness isn't some great unsolvable mystery. People are homeless because they don't have homes. This suffering persists not for lack of solutions, but because enormous wealth and power are invested in maintaining the very structures that produce it.

I really don't care for intelligence as a concept. there are obviously capabilities that we read as intelligence, but the concept is almost never used in ways that are actually good for us, and it is wholeheartedly embraced by some of the very worst people as a dividing practice.

It's such a degraded and reductive notion of what consciousness is, what being alive is, what humanity is, tailored to their skillset and toolbox. Serious scholars of consciousness often seem to conclude that consciousness is inherently embodied.

You can see that even with the bedtime story, it's reduced to a task that has content and delivery. There's no mention of the child, and no interest in the relationship. "Care work" is seen as boring and inefficient. Because he doesn't actually care.

Melonie @quioui.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
It's often framed in terms of the "content" of a sort of transaction. But "care work" is about caring, and it's also about relationships. A key difference between teaching and "content transmission" - people learn and grow from the relationships they build through the process of education.

Melonie @quioui.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Also care work is not, on the face of it, the sort of work that can be automated in this way. But it's an ongoing crusade, and you can see that really clearly in the field of education (ed tech). It's work that's not valued (by the market) and also (not coincidentally) seen as "women's work"

A new Handbook of Evolutionary Psychology has just been published, in which it is claimed that the human species is polytypic: not only is race biologically meaningful but the races are distinct enough to be considered subspecies. Published by Elgar. In 2026.
Chapters in Part III take stock of the current state of evolutionary psychology, by casting wider attention to other social and behavioral sciences and assessing the field's influence on them. In Chapter 11 ('Evolutionary psychology and anthropology'), Heiner Rindermann identifies three major forces that oppose scientific anthropology: Religion, National Socialism ('Nazism'), and woke leftist ideology. Ironically, in this sense, woke left ideologues, who include most anthropologists themselves, geneticists, and other university academics, share much in common with the Nazis in their common opposition to scientific anthropology.
Rindermann's extensive review of the literature leaves no doubt that humans are genetically polytypic and contain different biological races or 'subspecies' At the end of the chapter, Rindermann delivers devastating rebuttals to all potential arguments against the notion of races/subspecies among humans.

Yes. And also I think we need to underscore that a lot of women didn’t really have as much freedom of choice to just say no to having children until relatively recently. As women have gotten more rights the number of children they have has generally gone down, and they’ve had them later.

Like "has been denigrated" is interesting too. It's been criticised, a lot. For good reason. I'll also note that all the way through this article, it's clear that "traditional masculinity" is one reason men don't want to open up about mental health.
