Most surreal moment being when Bolsonaro père—banned from appearing on campaign trail—nevertheless appeared as an AI avatar endorsing his son.

„Machtergreifung“. Diesen Leuten ist die Erinnerungskultur nichts als Machtinstrument, aus dem man einen politischen oder finanziellen Vorteil zieht, bei Bedarf ist ihnen keine Obszönität groß genug.

Great discussion of Muskism on @thedigradio.bsky.social: how speculative finance, state power & hard infrastructure combine to build a reactionary future. And lovely to hear @quinnslobodian.com give my work on reactionary futurism a shout-out alongside Becca Lewis’s! thedigradio.com/podcast/musk...

"This idea of a human merger with machines has been a motif in Musk’s intellectual life, which has remained in many ways (and with many terrible results) that of an arrogant and cloistered adolescent boy."

Quinn Slobodian and Ben Tarnoff’s Muskism examines how Elon Musk became the world’s first trillionaire, by selling a vision of the future that very few people would want to inhabit.

I take that a little differently. Nature must remain outside of commodification to be exploited. Sorry implication for much of human labor in AI future is genuinely surplus, neither free nor gift.

It takes a while to get to the part you're reading it for (the bitchy part), but oh my god is it amazing when it does.
Screenshot reading:
You may find these hours extraordinarily trying, if for the simple reason that you will be solicited for a Ray Dalio reading group or a bachata class before you can finish your cup of coffee. Similar sessions seem to happen almost nightly in one of the hotel’s thirteenth-floor “KTV” rooms, which have been converted into ersatz conference-like event spaces for daily happenings. Their dimly lit and cheaply ornamented walls are lined with dark leather couches and bookcases of fake cardboard books titled inscrutable things like DARWINS THERIE and Furniture Design Idea Book.

One sometimes gets the impression that decades of postcolonial critique had rendered the NGO sector paralyzingly self-conscious—-then you find the head of the largest private grant making foundation has simply ignored it.
