Any analysis of the Iran War that doesn't start and end with the fact that an entire cottage industry of think tankers and lobbyists and their friends in Congress were frothing at the mouth for literal decades for this got exactly what they wanted and it failed immediately and totally is wrong.

The one good thing about him is that he will betray anyone that trusts him, no matter what, the second it seems appealing to him to do, even for petty reasons. It's only good because he is so obviously nasty and faithless that the only people who could trust him deserve exactly what they get.

One big advantage with going after Vought, Hegseth, etc. is that they're openly committing very real crimes, and also that Trump does not have the ability to easily replace them.

The AG's office claims that it's a budget thing, which is probably at least partially true. But it's hard not to suspect that the fact that the Conviction Review Unit amounted to the Taking Back Klobuchar's Convictions Unit was also a factor in the decision.

Now I'm thinking about how many articles I've seen explaining that doing cognitively difficult tasks and memory exercises in old age reduces the risk of dementia, and wondering where we're going with all of this.

It never says it explicitly in the article, but if you read between the lines it's pretty clear that the different brains hate each other, too.

The key phrase isn't 'directly impact me' as much as it is 'an issue'. The stuff that directly impacted him before doesn't count as an issue (usually retroactively, because he would have been on the wrong side of it if so.)

One thing that's surprisingly fun is looking up the mileage for those giant aggro-douchebag trucks, and then using where it looks like gas prices are going to come up with an estimate of how much that person will be spending for each mile.

For whatever reason it's "large quantities of sniper ammunition" that's getting to me. Does he know what snipers even do? Some poor moron, pretty enough to make it through Hegseth's purges, spend years training as a sniper only to get into position and discover a belt fed machine gun.

RABID BAT FOUND ON SIDEWALK
On Tuesday, September 15 at about 12pm, a bat was found on the sidewalk on Hennepin Ave between N. Washington Ave and N 3°St.
The bat died and was sent for rabies testing. This bat tested positive for
rabies.
A woman was seen crouching by the bat and putting it into a bag. She was described as a 25-to-30-year-old white woman, about 5'5", with curly brown hair and a curly-haired golden retriever-like dog. If this was you, please call 911 and ask to be connected to Animal Care & Control.
Bites from bats are tiny, may be painless, and may not leave a mark. An person who had physical contact or touched this bat should talk with health care provider this weekend for assessment. During the week, Minnesota Department of Health can also provide rabies assessments at 651-201-5414.
If vou did not touch or have any contact with the bat, you have no risk of rabies and do not need shots.

I know they're thinking that "nationalize" means "buy," but the spicier "declare that it belongs to the government now" version would be very, very funny and deserved.

People like to talk about the advantage of liberal democracy being related to fairness or the consent of the governed or that sort of thing, but it's turning out really clear that the big advantage is that it's hard* to get millions of people deranged in the exact same way. *hard, not impossible

The great bit about the rationalist cult is that a bunch of people convinced themselves they were too smart to fall for some grimy cult leader, and then joined a cult lead by a completely fictional one.

It's times like this that I like to think back to the ICE signing bonus that they advertised so heavily, and that one of the conditions of it was that you had to pay it back in full if you didn't work there for at least five years.

What made the gay rights movement so powerful was how they quietly voted in favor of politicians who called them mentally ill and advocated their removal from public life, and didn't make a fuss about it. It was very persuasive of them.

The AI is just too good right now for an IPO. Once people got to see the financial records, the shares would be worth so much that it would be unfair to other shares. That's why.

The idea of using AI to make something in the spirit of a Werner Herzog movie is so intrinsically funny that I can't help but wonder whether he was being trolled. The style of his movies is "Not Doing That Kind Of Thing"! That's one of their main features!

Early on in college my roommate, late at night, saw me sit bolt upright in bed, point at the wall, and say something, before lying down again. He is the second person to report seeing me doing that. Neither one would tell me more about what I said than "it sounded like a different language."

The most sympathetic read on the 'reaching out to MAHA' stuff is that it's not reaching out to them, it's reaching out to the people who are still lost in wishful thinking about their toxic relatives and friends coming around, and not being publicly embarrassing anymore.

One of the oldest inks is a combination of lampblack and a binder to help seal it to the surface you write on. In English it's usually called India Ink.The ink is from China. Everyone else calls it Chinese Ink, with one exception. The exception is China, where it is called India Ink.

I don't know if funny is the word, but it's certainly something that the easiest way to get an accurate picture of how the US/Iran war is going is to take the official US statements and switching "US" and "Iran" in them.

This feels like one of those things that people desperately avoid realizing right up until the last minute, because realizing it when you aren't in the middle of an immediate panic makes it hard not to also realize that it's a foundational assumption of capitalism as an economic system.

Leaving aside the obvious potential for like half the country to have a foodborne illness in the near future, if you’ve interacted at all with actual farmers it is really hilarious that he thinks they’re gonna react positively to being told to work more and/or pay more people to do this.

It's very funny to watch Trump try to will "time is on my side" into being, when there are very obvious countdown clocks running that do not apply to Iran. It would be funnier if it wasn't going to end horribly for all of us, yes, but at least we get this?
