Does anyone know any good analytical articles on the situation in the Japanese economy, AI investments, and semiconductor manufacturing? #Japan

After the conclusion of a decade of the Trump political era (it really was quite long, wasn't it?), it will be necessary not only to reverse certain political decisions (alongside much damage that remains almost irreversible), but also to re-evaluate the fundamental, moral harm it has inflicted

A sabotage terrorist attack on a British airbase housing US strategic bombers has been averted. Yet another reminder of how quickly things can take a turn for the worse.

We should have kept the computers that deal with numbers. Computers that speak are uncanny. They feel like witchcraft.

Why are people more worried if AI talks than when AI plays chess? Although the endeavor of learning chess from scratch is technically more interesting than mimicking human language based on vast amounts of data.

Generative artificial intelligence is a tool of deception, the disenfranchisement of workers, who are often already low-paid and from poor backgrounds and countries, and a dangerous instrument for uncontrolled cyberattacks, rather than a useful tool.

The United States does not need a significant increase in the share of factory workers in the labor force to raise industry’s share of GDP to Germany’s level. Only few points.

We have computers that process petabytes of data collected from particle collisions, as well as algorithms that sort useful data from useless data. And no, we do not think these computers are living, conscious beings, but rather that they are doing what they were made to do.

It is questionable what the operational capabilities of European NATO members are without U.S. participation. Much of NATO is structured around direct, and fairly massive, American involvement.

One of the more plausible scenarios for how AI could lead to catastrophe: misinterpreting signals in a situation where human judgment is the only thing that matters.

People speak too lightly of technological threats and Cold War–style calculations. On several occasions, the composure of one or two Soviet officers was the only thing standing between humanity and catastrophe.

The current business model is highly questionable. Whatever they do, there's a good chance that in six months a comparable product will arrive at a lower price, using less computing power. Fear of competition is the most powerful source of panic.

And then, three days later, an open model drops that does ninety-five percent of the work for you. An unsustainable business model. And the real reason behind pushing doomer scenarios.

An honest investigation could determine whether these companies are selling tools while falsely assuring buyers of their reliability. If that is the case (and I suspect it is), then they ought to find themselves in the dock.

Big US companies are pushing for cartelization, opposing open models and free competition. If they have any safety concerns, they should open source their models (which, after all, everyone should do).

War (and this cannot be repeated enough) is and always will be a political endeavor. There is no war without politics. Violence is used to do something concrete.
