Among friends and acquaintances, I've found a simple "hey, that's not cool" spoken in a calm, but disappointed tone (as if to say "come on ... you're better than that") has gotten results. Among strangers I'm less confident of the outcome.

One of the biggest stories of 2027 will be the savagery of the GOP's Medicaid cuts. But the most indefensible cruelty has already begun, with disabled kids being ripped from their homes and sent to asylums, @matthewcort.land told me.

i don't think cis guys realize how much power they can shift in a conversation just by casually telling their friends

this week was the two year anniversary of when me and my girlfriend April started dating. i made this piece to celebrate :)
A storybook-style illustration of a cat and a dog on a walk in the woods with a picnic basket. There's narration below, which reads: "I think a snack in the forest would do us well!" said the dog. "Why, that sounds lovely!" replied the cat. And off they went on their merry way for a picnic in the woods."

SO much love for the covid cautious spaces that maintain their shared principles under enormous pressure to capitulate. When organizers commit to accessibility they send the message that the participation of disabled agitators is understood as critical.

People really do not like when the group of people doing the dying point out that they're the ones doing the dying and they're doing so because of everyone's profound lack of care. So they get ignored, or worse, they get mocked.

Even in the absence of an apology, those leftists and libs who used this story to smear marginalized groups do not even feel compelled to share the bar owners’ statement. They would prefer to let the harmful propaganda stand than take any single gram of accountability.

Just gonna say in 24 hours I have not seen a single apology at any level by anyone who used the article as an excuse to bash Covid cautious people or queer people as a whole. I have not seen a word from people who gleefully referred to disabled people as “wreckers”. Not one single oops.

The thing that’s really lovely about wearing a mask in public places is that it has huge personal benefits while also making spaces safer and more accessible to others

Stop calling people who wear masks and take Covid precautions the “forever covid” crowd. We’re literally the only ones trying to eliminate the virus. It’s not gone. It’s not over. It’s still disabling. People who deny this reality are the “forever COVID” crowd.

Disabled people make society uncomfortable. Left or right…. It doesn’t matter. People want to believe it can’t happen to them. That if they become disabled there will be a magic “fix”. We challenge their denial, so they deny us solidarity and support. That’s ableism.

Some of you fail to understand that masking can be something you do because you believe in restricting risks for vulnerable people in your lives: it can be an act of community. Not always of course. But some people don’t mask because they’re disabled, they mask for this reason.

it's not hyperbolic to say that if the ways you talk and think about disabled/sick people (as well as the COVID precautions we may take) are indistinguishable from how fascists talk about disabled/sick people—even down to the same statements—then you have a fucking problem.

What was this, the second time in a month that leftists gleefully joined in on a harassment campaign initiated by reactionaries against covid cautious people? Seems like that indicates a critical absence in awareness and analysis. Maybe y’all should fix that. And your hearts too.

what’s amazing to me, always, is how many people will be like “ugh I hate fascism, the far right is evil, etc etc etc” and then in the next breath say “but people should only have human rights and dignity if they’re on my side and I like them”

OMFG if I see one more person suggest that people talking about Covid in 2026 want permanent lockdowns I’m going to lose it The asks are clean air in public places, treatments for long covid, masks in places like healthcare + normalization of masking elsewhere, expanded vaccine access, sick leave

I mean, pretending your actions are well-intentioned doesn't make them morally better. If you're still doing abusive things, and you have no intent to stop, you might as well own that what you're doing and why you're doing it.

There's a difference between being actually motivated by good intentions vs being motivated by selfish intentions and then coming up with good intentions post hoc to make yourself feel good about yourself.

So much this. My partner is disabled and high risk for Covid complications. We both mask in all public spaces, and the amount of non-reciprocated empathy and emotional labor we are required to exhibit in conversations with our families has been, in some ways, the hardest part.

An illustration of the Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote touching noses. They are lesbians of course.

They are both more anthropomorphic and wearing clothes.
Wile is wearing a spiked leather jacket, goggles, jeans and sneakers. All looking a bit raggedy. She is reading a book titled „how do I know if she’s hitting on me?“

Roadrunner is in a sporty running outfit.

The composition and pose is referenced from the Looney Tunes short „to beep or not to beep“

Yeahhh as a disabled lesbian it’s pretty obvious the article was written to give everyone an opportunity to laugh at the most isolated and vulnerable among us. The wider public has never *ever* given a shit about any other harassment campaign that’s shuttered a lesbian bar. Y’all can’t fool me!

Sometimes I run across a take in trans spaces that basically runs "nonbinary people aren't 'visibly trans'", with the implication usually that our needs are less important. Let's talk about my swimming class. Or, rather, getting changed for swim class.
