Just had an interesting conversation as to why some people on here don’t use alt-text in their images. 🤔 After their initial reply to my post about not using alt-text, that they don’t do it as it trains AI, they then said I was wasting their time. 🫤 #Accessibility
💀Their second reply to me after I asked for alt-text on their images and they said it trains AI:

Unfortunately the developers of bluesky have taken this position.
I did not.Their final reply, with an image of a line chart, showing Pointless Questions along the x axis and Indigenous peoples time wasted along the Y, with an arrow pointing to You halfway up the line.

“You have the most powerful invention mankind has ever created in the palm of your hand. And rather than using it, you choose to waste my time? Please consult the chart.”

And design them in no later than at beta, otherwise you’ll likely have lots of issues. e.g. One of my favourite games, #NoMansSky, in its Fractal Update, released February 2023, increased certain menu text sizes and is STILL broken, over two years and four further updates later! 😫

THE TIMES

Sir, When the Dunbar lifeboat launched on December 21, 1971 in a force 10 gale to help a young man who had been face down in the water for several minutes, its crew did not know and did not ask whether the person was black, white, Christian, Muslim or a refugee. He was simply a human being in trouble. In setting out to save me the RNLI honoured one of the most admirable philosophies in human history. The fact that their action granted me a wonderful life I would otherwise not have had is a minor point. The important point is that in dedicating itself to the saving of human life the crew members of the RNLI restored my faith in humanity. Greater love hath no person than to risk their life for someone they do not know. Greater hate hath no person than to accuse those who put their lives on the line for others of being traitors.

The best thing

The best thing about being 80 is that you outlive the clocks that have been chasing you. It's freedom from that lie that anything was ever under control. You don't chase the parade anymore. You're an old king from some vanished country. You're harder to program. You're not rushing to become anything and you're not haunted by things that you did. You're haunted by how little of it really mattered in the way you thought it would.

The worst thing

The worst thing about being 80 is that you still want to say yes to everything, but the world moves without asking. The old fire in your heart still tells you to do this and that, but your body says we already did it. Also, nothing surprises you. It sounds like a luxury but it's not, and also you've run out of illusions. People treat you like either you've solved something or you've lost something, and you haven't. You see life repeating itself everywhere.

The really worst part about being 80 is that you find, at last, you've got an understanding of something that might have altered everything in the past, had it come at a time when something could still be altered. When you're young you think that time moves forward. At 80 you know that it doesn't, it stands still. We're the ones that move.

Heading says: OFF HER BLOCK?
"WE believe in a free press," Kemi Badenoch boasted to journalists at an event in London last week after Reform UK banned a series of critical journalists, including this year's Paul Foot Award winner Peter
Geoghegan, from its annual conference.
"Of course, that might be painful for us as politicians, but public scrutiny is part of the gig," she added. "If Nigel Farage can't handle difficult questions... then he shouldn't be a politician." Strong words from the Conservative leader, who insisted her own party would
"absolutely not" act in the same way towards reporters they disapproved of.
That was certainly news to those journalists who were banned from attending her own party conference last year. Political journalists Adam Bienkov and David Hencke, from the investigative news outlet Byline Times, were both refused entry to Badenoch's annual event in Birmingham, without explanation, after they published a series of critical investigations into her party.
Hencke, who died earlier this year, was left hundreds of pounds out of pocket by the late decision to refuse his accreditation. Despite almost 40 years of critical coverage of the Conservatives, largely for the Guardian, it was the first party conference he had been refused entry to.

An icon showing a hand-painted mark, with text saying
Perhaps they rhyme?
These are two different sigils. And yet - you trace the lines of them (keeping your finger safely away from the glass) these are identical figures. Two identical figures with subtly different meanings.

One pertains to space and distance, freedom and isolation. 'As vast as necessary' would be a fair translation. This Correspondence stone belongs to the machine containing Frankenstein.

The other suggests a voice and its echo, a king and its soldiers, the number of bodies required for a murder scene to become a battlefield. This sigil, rising over The Girl from Behind the Looking Glass, you might translate as 'as many as necessary’.An icon showing a hand-painted mark, with text saying
A word of betweenness.
It's not a complicated sigil, as far as the Correspondence goes. It pertains to size or scale. A glyph that suggests, at once, the space between a garden and a wall, the space between stars in the void, the space between a man and his neighbor. Liberty; loneliness.

A simple translation would be, 'as vast as necessary’.

Only real issue I found with the resizing was that sentences/blocks of text needed line breaks at commas and full stops to help keep the width of the text box from getting stretched too wide. The middle box in the attached screenshot could’ve been about a third narrower. ☺️👍

Letter to
Mr Jeremy Leibler
President, Zionist Federation of Australia

Dear Mr Leibler,
Thank you for your letter of 23 August. As you chose to make your letter public, I will also be publishing this response.
Criticism of Israel is not anti-semitic. It is, as the NSW Supreme Court recently found, legitimate political comment.
Your conflation of 'Zionist' with 'Jew' is fundamentally dishonest.
Not all Jews are Zionists, and not all Zionists are Jews. That you would descend to such sophistry exposes the lack of foundation in your argument.
Your implication that the tragedy of Bondi and the ensuing Royal Commission should suppress legitimate political debate is chilling.
I do not accept that proposition.
I have, as you asked, reflected on my statement that the Australian government is captured by Zionist interests. I offer, as my response, the truth.
Israel is perpetrating a genocide in Gaza, and the Australian government is complicit.
Thank you again for your letter.

Yours sincerely
Nick McKim
Australian Greens Senator for Tasmania.

Update: 13 August 2026: This Week in Videogames requested a follow-up comment from Saber
Interactive, and received the following statement from Karch:
"Stella who? I had to ask Claude because I have never spoken to her or seen her. We have already said we are using Al for certain parts of the game and will update the Steam page once we have finalized the feature set.
"Let me clarify that the entire story script, were it to win an award, would go to someone who can walk up on stage and receive it. It was always our intention to reveal this until Stella violated her confidentiality clause and revealed this before we were ready.
"We look at our use of Al in this particular game, which will be a lower priced title, as a plus for consumers," he said.
"As far as Stella is concerned, she was replaced by someone more talented and terminated for a variety of reasons a few months later. From what I can gather she enjoys controversy even more than I do. I would frankly in retrospect have been happy to replace her with Al. At least we would be dealing with someone programmed to be honest.

Article headline says:
Aerial archaeologists reap rich harvest from dry land.
First part of article:

In the middle of summer, it is not unusual for strange markings to turn up in Britain's fields.

Once upon a time, cranks trod down crops to try to persuade us that aliens were moving to Wiltshire, but in today's sweltering summers, patterns are revealing the secrets of our past. Climate change has helped create a boom in aerial archaeology, and new features are being revealed by the increasingly dry weather each year. Five of the Il busiest years for the the dis-

cipline have taken place in the 2020s, with newly discovered sites including Iron Age farms, First World War tren- ches and lost country house gardens.

"It's just nuts at the moment really, but it's been a good summer," said Toby Driver, a doctor in archaeology and aerial investigator with the Senior Caeriaission in Wales. He is one Royal Commission in Wales. of the country's leading aerial arch- aeologists and has spent much of the summer flying over Wales taking photographs of the still-buried remains of our past.

The link between ex- tremely dry weather and archaeological success is clear. Parched crops and grass dry at different rates according to what is be- neath them, meaning that walls, trenches, mounds and other features lost in the soil become apparent once again.

"You get this X-ray

effect," Driver explained. "If these sites have never had any geophysical surveys or any excavations then it's our one chance, in a week or two of every decade, before the rain comes and when the drought's sufficiently deep, to get these marks recorded."
