#Vancouver art gallery near DTES was broken into last Friday - by firefighters, on instructions from the @vancouverpd.bsky.social. The #VPD refused to believe that a sculpture in the gallery was NOT an intruder - costing the gallery at least $1,000 in damage!

I remember in a psych class watching a (now decades old) documentary about how VPD was a shining example of how to do community policing in vulnerable spaces like the DTES. Interesting to see how far they have strayed from that.

A fun little tidbit from my stolen bike recovery saga yesterday is that Rob got from an event in the DTES to having located and put a lock around my bike at Joyce Station in 18 minutes flat, thanks to a multi-modal combo of Mobi bike and SkyTrain. Fast, reliable transport options really matter!

One thing I always remember about Aaron Gunn is how he needed a police escort to make a documentary in the DTES. I’m a small middle aged woman who’s covered many DTES issues, gone inside SROs and homeless encampments - and I certainly didn’t need police to help get the story 🙄

The MeshCore app has some great tools built in, like Discover Nearby Nodes that shows the repeaters you can directly communicate with, and Line of Sight that shows signal path between any two points to check for obstructions
