Cities around the world have shown that well-lit streets and bus shelters don’t just change how safe people feel – they actually make people safer 🧵

Road safety is public safety. Every year, the numbers speak for themselves. I'm proud of my work on Council to bring traffic fatalities and injuries to zero. We need political will to deliver results, and Ken Sim and ABC have shown us time and again that this isn't a priority for them.

My mom worked as a nurse here in Vancouver for 31 years & while it wasn’t always easy, she was able to raise my sister & me on her own and provide us a good life. Her union made that possible. #VanPoli #LabourDay2026 1/10🧵

Disappointing that Councillor Maloney’s request for a special meeting to discuss measures to support businesses + workers affected by increased tariffs was rejected by ABC. They’re more interested in campaigning on the premise they support small business than doing the work to support small business

I deeply appreciate the support of climate activist, author, and friend @sethdklein.bsky.social I’ve long admired his activism and enjoyed working together to advocate to keep fossil fuels out of buildings in Vancouver. 1/4

Here's the truth behind Ken Sim and ABC's public safety plebiscite - it will waste up to $560k to ask voters' opinion on two non-binding questions on matters that are in the provincial and federal governments' jurisdiction, not the city's.

I'm so proud of OneCity's Local Economic Action Plan to support Vancouver's small businesses, which create local jobs, contribute to a more vibrant and walkable city, and help build community connections. Small businesses put down roots in our neighbourhoods. City Hall should help them grow.

Ken Sim thinks you don’t know what a plebiscite is. He wants to spend taxpayer dollars to ask you to vote on whether or not he should write a letter to the province. How embarrassing.

Today we’re announcing the first part of OneCity's Local Economy Action Plan: Good Business Starts at Home. We’ll legalize corner stores, home studios, small repair shops, and modest cultural spaces in neighbourhoods across the city, not just a handful of commercial streets. 2/7
Policy Announcement: Legalize Backyard Businesses, Good Business Starts at Home.

To the people who still envision a walkable, vibrant Vancouver, it's still possible. ABC killed the plan today, but OneCity is committed to bringing more diverse, thriving neighbourhoods to every community. Be a part of it - donate or volunteer at the link in bio.

Tomorrow, City Council will hear Ken Sim’s motion to roll back Vancouver’s leadership on safe + energy-efficient buildings, including by: • pausing emissions reporting for large buildings • repealing rules limiting gas-fired water heaters • reverting our energy standards to weaker provincial req's

Campaigns are built through small moments: conversations, questions, encouragement, and people showing up. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this one. OneCity members are voting now until May 10th, and I would be so grateful for your support.

Grateful to have Am Johal’s support. Vancouver is at a turning point, and we need leaders with a principled, progressive vision for housing, climate justice, public space, and Indigenous rights. Voting is open now for OneCity members until May 10th, and I’d be honoured to have your support.

It’s going to be a busy (FIFA) and hot summer. However, ABC’s budget cuts means several beaches will not have lifeguards looking out for us. On Wednesday, Council will decide whether to put public safety first + reinstate lifeguards at high traffic beaches - Third Beach, Spanish Banks + Sunset.

What exactly does “public safety and affordability” mean to ABC? It certainly doesn’t seem to mean evidence-based measures like supportive housing that lead to greater affordability and public safety outcomes for everyone. 🧵1/5

The global response to oil crises always seems to do everything possible to increase supply, rather than reduce demand. The latter would be more beneficial in every way imaginable, and make us resilient to future crises (and there will be more!)

As a swimmer, I know how valuable pools are to so many people in this city - they’re where we learn to swim, train, and even compete. They’re big investments the city makes in youth and adult sports, fitness and public safety. That’s why I’m concerned about how the VAC “renewal” has been handled. 🧵

Council is continuing its deliberations on the Official Development Plan tonight (I’m one of the speakers carried over til this evening)! After wading through the plan, thought I’d share some of my summary/thoughts here:

Decisions at City Hall are falling short of our community values and leaving people behind: from banning supportive housing, cutting our sustainability office, to neglecting our public spaces. I’m running to be a OneCity council candidate to stand up for communities and the values we stand for.

Proud to be standing behind + with our incredible OneCity mayoral candidate @wazaroff.bsky.social at OneCity’s AGM. Congrats to both Amanda + William for running stellar nomination campaigns that challenged us not just to dream, but to organize, for a city that is more equitable, resilient + vibrant

Proud of my brave friend Esther for sharing her story + breaking her NDA to speak for those that can't. NDAs, originally designed to protect trade secrets, have become tools to silence victims of workplace discrimination, harassment + assault. This is not ok. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

On Friday, 30 Van city staff were told to pack up and move on. This included city engineers & transport staff - teams that help with safe street projects. More cuts for unionized workers are coming in Jan & Feb. This is the human & community cost of a slogan budget. Let’s send ABC home in October.

@movementyvr.bsky.social is up to incredible things for us transit riders in Metro Van! Advocating for faster, more reliable transit isn't just convenient for commuters - it also helps make us a leader on climate, transportation safety and equitable access. P.s. did y'all know what a bus bulb was??

Van showed up for the Eastside Culture Crawl in force this weekend. But ABC's 2026 draft budget does not. A 12% cut to arts, culture and community services puts beloved events like the crawl at risk. Always blown away by the local talent in Van - let's make sure it stays here. #vancity #budget

Grateful for the opportunity to learn about grassroots initiatives and policy proposals to support climate resiliency at the DTES beat the heat event today. Access to safe spaces in extreme heat events shouldn't be predicated on income or neighbourhood. Housing justice = climate justice. #DTES #ubc

Thanks for stepping up @wazaroff.bsky.social! We need a mayoral candidate who will work for Vancouverites being pushed out of this city and that will champion bold and brave policies to address Vancouver's housing crisis. The announcement we needed in the wake of the draft 2026 Budget.
