I love that show, a concept so good and so designed for YouTube shorts (famous person lists a bunch of food they like) that it doesn’t matter that the interviewer guy is the most unfunny, uncharismatic, fundamentally uninteresting guy in the world

They don’t come from ignorance. They r shaped by material circumstances (I’m young oh so young). I wanna watch the wire whenever I want, not Crossing Jordan bc it’s on. The best year for cinema ever was 2019.

watching it on ur laptop. Not to me man. I love the way art works on the internet. I love watching stuff on streaming. I like that there r so few real cultural gatekeepers. To me a good podcast makes a stand up special look like shit. Digital looks better than film. These r aesthetic preferences

Interesting to think abt this sentiment as an example of a larger insistence on a narrative of cultural decline. Ppl want to feel that the objective Western conditions of political/economic deterioration r cleanly reflected in the artistic arena. It’s not enough to note that the ways capital is

and imagined as excessive to the game of culture/taste itself, which classifies and is classifying. Not that this is an indictment necessarily- criticism always creates a power relationship. But deferring to the object is no out of it

In other words, if u pick a random David sims review u will most likely find him asserting that he is smarter than the movie. If he isn’t he will prob be embracing another pole of bourgeois criticism- celebration of and identification with ‘naive,’ pure art which is associated w/ ‘popular tastes’

This sounds all well and good but as Bourdieu talks abt, the bourgeois critic inherently and inevitably portrays himself as superior to/outside of the artistic object bc his critical posture underlines a distance from the object which creates the dignity of the subject

Don’t understand this desire at all. I’m a woman I don’t want to see this garbage reiterated for the millionth time (tbf I also don’t want to see ‘the mythic narrative but w/ a liberal individual protagonist’ for the billionth time either)

unitary object of ‘Judaism,’ nor are they specific to Jews. To use a parallel example, I don’t think you could say that state-sponsored racism is an ‘aberration’ in the history of socialism, but ‘socialism’ doesn’t become some morally untouchable thing bc of that

Fincking On You @psapphorossetti.bsky.social · 09/04/2026
I wouldn’t go this far with the framing of ‘aberration.’ Jewishness has been allied to settler colonialism, state power, etc. in lots of different ways at various points in history (see: America). The more important point to me is that these dynamics are not inevitable/do not characterize some

Zionism means, as Lapidot says, that there is a moral imperative to change Jewish identity if one wants to claim it, but it does not make Jewish identity (including ‘Judaism’) fair game for solipsistic and ahistorical generalization

Judaism as it is expressed in today’s Zionism is constituted by secularism, including when it is put in anti-secular terms. Lapidot is right that ‘real Judaism’ cannot be invoked to make Zionism analytically irrelevant to expressions of Jewish identity, but neither can it be essentialized as ‘what..

religiosity. These are, ofc, exactly the kinds of religiosity that secular, liberal nation-states continually produce. Even the concept of Judaism as a ‘religion’ is a product of Christian discourse- that is, a product of a particular arrangement of power.

Fincking On You @psapphorossetti.bsky.social · 09/04/2026
This kind of thing is so insanely frustrating to me. The implication of ‘Zionism was “formally” secular’ is that it wasn’t actually secular bc of all the things that were clearly religious abt it. In the same sense, now Zionism isn’t secular at all bc it is animated by a blood and soil fascist…

inherited from Protestantism (‘Catholics are idolaters’), before that from Christian views of Judaism (‘Jews miss the truth of spirit in favor of the golden calf of material ritual’), and before that from the monotheism of the Deuteronomistic school. All very bad stuff and nothing to take seriously

Worth noting that the equation of commodity fetishism and idolatry is already conceptually present in Marx, whose idea of the commodity form as ‘fetish’ (an object mistakenly given powers it does not possess by racialized ‘primitives’) reflects the hierarchizing ontology of absence his secularism…

The ‘gratuitous whininess’ of Limbaugh illustrates the point I was making- that some idea of the left being too complainy resulting in fascism is utterly ridiculous. Fascism has always existed in the US as enabled through the complacency and collaboration of liberalism

Being unsafe and feeling unsafe are in fact definitely not separable. Fear, anxiety, resentment, stress- these are all material results of the structures of power for marginalized people

This relies on the Western epistemological hierarchy of ‘reason’ over ‘emotion’- ‘real’ harm vs ‘felt’ harm. The distinction isn’t real. Structures of oppression are laden with affect, and excluding emotions only serves ppl whose emotions r read as not emotions (to simplify, white guys)

Liberalism’s rhetoric of ‘equality’ always come with exclusions (racial, gendered, national, etc) that define the subject that has rights and the subject who does not. Its idea of progress is also often used to justify subjugating or even exterminating ppl who ‘aren’t rational’ or stand in the way..
