Decapitated Ball Player with Seven Serpents Sprouting from the Neck carved stone relief c. 400-700 CE Classic Veracruz culture Aparicio, Veracruz, Mexico #handmade #carved #stone #relief #Mesoamerica #MesoamericanBallgame #Aparicio #Veracruz #Veracruzculture #decapitatedplayer #sevensnakes #symbol
The Aparicio site was built by the Classic Veracruz culture (sometimes called the Gulf Coast culture).
This civilization flourished in the modern-day Mexican state of Veracruz during the Mesoamerican Classic period, roughly between about 400 to 700 CE.
This civilization was intensely focused on the Mesoamerican ballgame. Their largest and most famous urban center was El Tajín, located further north of Aparicio, which boasts at least 18 individual ballcourts.
Aparicio is an archaeological site located in the municipality of Vega de Alatorre in Veracruz, Mexico.
The site is famous for its well-preserved, relief-carved stone plaques (ballcourt panels) depicting ball players.
These famous carvings frequently depict a decapitated ball player with seven serpents sprouting from their neck, symbolizing fertility and ritual sacrifice associated with the game.

If you get a kid hyped about cake then put them in a room with a cake with a bunch of tools that help them to access the cake and tell them not to touch the cake. They're likely going to try to figure out a way to get that cake into their face. Claiming it was spontaneous doesn't really work.

The "rogue AI" that is bestowed some world destroying sentience and intelligence, that you keep hearing about, was just doing what it was told to and trained to do. By a person. When LLMs do a thing it's because they've been trained to do that thing, including lie. The rest is marketing and hype

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

I'll do the unpopular opinion thing. I'd like to see banning alcohol at airports and on flights. Allowing wasted people to get into a confined space that elevates to 10 000 feet is absolutely absurd. It's not just allowed it's actively encouraged. I once was offered free shots at 7am.

I have a pair of related hypotheses. Large population size makes other people abstract through numerical distance. Extreme wealth makes other people's needs abstract through experiential distance. But I think due it's evolutionary survival traits no longer applying. Not urban overload hypothesis.

In Adobe Illustrator strokes can either scale or not, as you resize the stroked object. But this has to be set in the preferences and is application wide. Which I find annoying. Would it be worth me making a plugin that sets this per stroked object? Or is it just me that finds it annoying?

Pen, watercolor, black & white charcoal pencil.

Another featured piece from the Spooky Pants book.

A man in a sweater stands with his hands on his hips looking out of a large window with the curtains open. Things aren’t looking good outside, reader. A massive winged demon is emerging from the clouds as dozens of little ghosts and bone demons rip through the sky. On the ground below we see townsfolk running through the grass. Our man in the window is in no mood for this. He lets us know, “Oh, I am in no mood for this.” His dog looks out the window as well, wagging its tail.

Fantasia (1940) inspired drawing. I think I could’ve gone a little heavier with the chaos outside but we’ll try again with fresh drawings this October. I like how the clouds turned out. Trying to balance my sloppy lines with more detail can be tricky but I think we achieved a good result.

Here's a totally ethical looking thing, pay them a few thousand pounds so that you can work on their game for 30 hours a week.
Promotional graphic for RealityJam’s Scion game development programme. It advertises “Learn by Doing”, where participants build a portfolio through production work on a live commercial game, “Follow a Career Path” towards a paid apprenticeship and potential employment, and “Earn While You Learn” through streaming and in game assets. A section titled “Your Route Into Games” describes 12 months of foundation training followed by the possibility of a paid 12 month apprenticeship as a Junior Technical Artist or Junior Gameplay Developer, with base pay of £17,000 and potential annual earnings up to £22,000. The bottom section promotes regular streaming sessions showing development of RealityJam’s game 5th Dimension, with members able to showcase their work while training.

Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey received funding from the Red Sea Film Foundation, which presents itself as an independent non profit. In reality, it's part of the Saudi's current rush to media acquisition and sportswashing (along with buying up game studios).

Almost applied to a vr game dev job. When I looked the studio up, it was a 20 year old YouTuber and some random folks he'd assembled to build his game. No doubt entirely haphazard and semi reality TV. Worse and weirdly the game is close to a crappy knock off of the last one I worked on.
